17 May 1654: While campaigning in Perthshire during the Earl of Glencairn’s Rising, General George Monck issued orders from Cardross House ordering woodland near Aberfoyle to be cut down as it was giving “great shelters to the Rebels and Mossers”.
17 May 1746: Cluny Macpherson’s Regiment surrendered to the Earl of Loudoun at Fort Augustus. On the same day government forces consisting of three regular battalions and eight Independent Highland Companies arrived at Fort Augustus ahead of Cumberland’s main army.
