OVO Tuesday Trails
The Ottawa Voyageurs Walking Club invites you to our Tuesday morning group walk. Note the earlier start time.
The tulips, daffodils and tree blossoms are out in full force! Bring a friend!
Join us to take an advance look at the Day 1 Routes created for the Tulip Festival walking weekend.
Event: Tulip Festival Day 1, 2024
Start Point: Carleton University Ice House, Raven Rd, Ottawa (1125 Colonel By Dr, Ottawa, ON K1S 5B6)
Parking: Brewer Park (across the road from the start point)
Date: Tuesday, May 14, 2024
Time: Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. The group walks will start at 9:30.
Routes: 6 and 10 km
Cost: $1 for OVO members, $2 for others. Children 16 and under no charge.
Washrooms: Available at Brewer Pool, the Ice House Start point), Tim Hortons at Carleton U.

Tulip Fest Day 1 – CVF 6957
18 May 2024 6 KM Route – Difficulty 1A
Carleton University Ice House, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON Washrooms available at the start and at Lansdowne Park
CVF Special Programs: Art in Public Places
1. Exit the side door of the Ice House and turn left on the brick pathway, passing the Child Care centre on the left, to University Dr. Turn right and walk alongside University Dr to the traffic circle. Cross University Ave at the 2nd crossing and take the paved path almost straight ahead, keeping to the right of the black & red building, to the lights at Bronson Ave. Cross and turn left.
2. Cross over the Canal and almost immediately after crossing go down the steps on the right. At the bottom of the steps go straight ahead on the path to the end at Queen Elizabeth Dr (QE Dr). Carefully cross QE Dr and turn right on the path, Brown’s Inlet will be on the left, to Queen Elizabeth Pl. (2.2km)
3. Cross QE Place, continue under the Bank St Bridge and almost immediately turn left onto the paved path up to Bank St (on the left) and ahead to Exhibition Way. Turn right and stay on Exhibition Way until just after the bend then turn right onto Princess Patricia Way (Aberdeen Bldg will be on the right). Follow Princess Pat Way (washrooms in the Horticultural building on left) out to Queen Elizabeth Dr and turn right onto the paved path.
4. Stay on the path, under the Bank St Bridge to QE Place, then turn right and proceed up to the Bank St Bridge. Turn right and cross over the Canal to Aylmer Ave. Turn right and proceed along Aylmer Ave to Barton St and turn right. Stay on Barton St to the end then continue on the path to walk behind the building. Follow the path, which goes down a small incline to the right, then continue straight ahead, keeping Colonel By on your right.
5. After crossing a couple of streets, there will be some tulip beds on your right. After stopping to look at their beauty, continue on the path to Fulton Ave. Cross Fulton Ave and continue to Canal Woods Terrace and turn left. Stay on Canal Woods Ter, cross Sunnyside Ave and then turn right out to the lights at Bronson Ave.
6. Cross Bronson Ave and turn left to walk along Bronson Ave to the next set of lights. Turn right and proceed along the pathway back to the Ice House (opposite Alumni Hall).
Distance: Approx 6.22 km

1. Exit the side entrance of the Ice House and turn left onto the brick pathway (passing the Child Care Centre on your left) to University Dr. Turn right on University Dr and walk towards the
traffic circle.
Before entering the traffic circle, turn left and cross University Dr. Take the 2nd and 3rd crosswalks and then continue to take the paved path straight ahead.
Stay right of the red and black building (Urbandale Centre) and continue to the lights at Bronson Ave.
Carefully cross Bronson Avenue watching out for cyclists, pedestrians and cars. Turn left.

2. Cross over the canal bridge and once on the other side, immediately take the stone steps on the right side of the bridge. (Suggestion: Leaders may want to do a quick head count of walkers before continuing.)
Continue to walk down the path in front of the houses while watching for oncoming pedestrians. Stay on the path to Queen Elizabeth Dr.. Cross Queen Elizabeth Dr and turn right on to the path to Queen Elizabeth Place. (Browns Inlet will be on your left.). 2.2 KM

3. Cross Queen Elizabeth Place and continue to walk under the Bank St. bridge. After passing the bridge, take an immediate left onto the paved path and approach Bank Street (on your left). Continue (N) onto Bank Street till you arrive at Lansdowne Stadium (TD Place).
Turn right on Exhibition Way and continue to follow the buildings till you arrive at the
Aberdeen Building. The Aberdeen Pavilion, located on Princess Patricia Way, will be on your right. Continue on Princess Patricia Way, cross the street and take a rest on the small park/rest area on your right. (Suggestion:
Leaders may want to do a second quick head count of walkers before continuing.)
Continue on the path till you arrive at Queen Elizabeth Dr. (Do not cross QE Dr. to the canal.). Turn right and continue to walk on the paved pathway passing the tulips and an
Olympic torch monument. (Great spot to take pictures with the canal in the background.)


4. Staying on the path, continue to walk under the Bank Street Bridge and turn right onto Queen Elizabeth Place. Turn right onto Wilton and turn right again onto Bank St. heading south. Cross over the Bank St. bridge in single file until you arrive at the Southminster United Church. (There might be a lot of traffic.)
Turn right onto Aylmer Ave. and proceed to Barton St. Turn right onto Barton till the end. Turn left and continue down the path behind the retirement residence. This path will continue down a small incline and follow some beautiful properties overlooking
the canal. Continue straight ahead, always keeping Colonel By Dr on your left.
5. After crossing a number of streets, you will see some beautiful tulip beds on your right. Continue to walk to Fulton Avenue. Cross Fulton Ave. and continue to Canal Woods Terrace and turn left. Continue to walk to Sunnyside Ave, turn right and walk up to the lights (Bronson Ave.) Turn left and cross Sunnyside at the crosswalk. Turn left once
again and continue to walk down Sloane Ave.
Carefully walk through the parking lot to the paved path and over to Bronson Ave. Cross Bronson Ave and continue to the Ice House (across from Alumni Hall).
Tulip Fest Day 1 – CVF 6957

You will be on shared pathways – watch for cyclists
1. Exit the side door of the Ice House and turn left to walk along the path with the large boulders on the left, to University Dr. Turn right and stay on the pathway alongside University Dr to the traffic circle. Just before the traffic circle, cross at the crosswalk and continue clockwise around the traffic circle to the paved path on the left (yellow line). Take this path, keeping to the right of the black & red building (Urbandale Centre), to Bronson Ave.
2. Turn left along Bronson Ave, carefully crossing the on and off ramp to Colonel By Dr, and proceed over the Canal to Lakeside Ave (after Lakeview Ter). Turn left along Lakeside Ave to the path on the left at the bottom of the street. Turn left and go through the park to Queen Elizabeth Dr (QE Dr). Proceed under the Bronson Ave Bridge and up the steps on the left. In front of house 606, turn right on the path, walking along some beautiful homes to the left, to the end at QE Dr and Broadway Ave. Cross Broadway to the path and turn right. (2.74km)
3. Walk along Brown’s Inlet, under the Bank St bridge and keep left on the paved path to Exhibition Way. Turn right along Exhibition Way to Princess Patricia Way, on the right just after the curve. Turn right at Princess Pat Way (Aberdeen Building on corner) and continue on the paved path alongside the road (washrooms in Horticulture building on left) out to QE Drive. Turn left on the paved path to Fifth Ave. Cross Queen Elizabeth and turn left a few feet to rejoin the pathway on the right. Stay on this path (Do not cross the bridge over the Canal) to the Patterson Creek sign. Carefully cross Queen Elizabeth Dr, go down the steps and continue on the path on the left of the Creek to O’Connor St. Go up the stairs and turn right a few feet to Linden Ter.
5. Turn right along Linden Terrace to One Linden then turn left on the path alongside the houses to Pretoria Ave. Carefully cross Pretoria and veer right on the sidewalk to the lights at Elgin & Hawthorn. Veer right to cross Queen Elizabeth Dr and Hawthorne and go down the steps. Go straight ahead to the path and turn right to continue on the paved path (yellow line) to the Ritz Carlton at Fifth Ave & QE Drive. (6.41 km)
6. Cross QE Dr to the path and turn left to walk along QE Dr to the Bank St bridge. Walk under the bridge to Queen Elizabeth Place, turn right to Wilton Cres and right to Bank St. Turn right and cross Bank St over the Canal to Aylmer Ave. Turn right along Aylmer Ave to Barton St and turn right. Stay on Barton St to the end then proceed behind the building (retirement home) to continue on the path. Follow the path, which will veer to the right and down a slight decline, and straight ahead with the houses to the left.
7. After crossing a couple of streets, stop to enjoy the tulip beds across Col By Dr before continuing on. At Fulton St, cross and continue to Canal Woods Terrace and turn left. Stay on Canal Woods Terrace to Sunnyside Ave, carefully cross and continue along Sloan Ave. Walk through the parking lot to the lights at Bronson Ave. Carefully cross Bronson Ave. and continue along the brick pathway to the finish at the Ice House (across from Alumni Hall).
Distance: Approx 10.14km
