Hey yall im looking to buy a ford torino to make my dream muscle car. I want to build something thats hell on wheels and has some shelby influence. Ive always loved how shelby took cars and turned them into monsters and was wondering if its possible to put something like a 427 in it and supercharge it? What im really asking is, if you had a torino what would you do to it to make it something carroll would approve of? Imagine budget isnt an issue, but i want to keep the motor ford. I was talking to a buddy and he said use a chevy motor, but something about putting a chevy engine in a ford has always seemed disrespectful to me lol i dunno. I dont know if 1k horses is possible but itd be cool as hell with some big ass tires on the back, kinda hot rod it. Definitely gotta turbo or supercharge it

Yeah, it's possible to put an engine that size in them. Depending on year and options, 427, 428, 429, and 460 were all factory engine options for the Torino. As for which one is "best", that's going to obviously be a matter of personal opinion. Personally, I think the 1970 Torino Cobra with the 429 SCJ was the highpoint of the Torino. I'm not sure why you would put a Chevy engine in one though, especially if budget isn't an issue for you.
I have a 70 with the 429, I've always been partial to 70-71 body style.
The 427 was never installed in one.
I said it would fit, and was a factory engine option. And it certainly was listed as a factory engine option in 1968. About a month into production, there was a strike which resulted in plans being changed, and the engine offerings changed, but it was supposed to be an optional engine and it obviously would fit.
Even the race cars were marketed like that. David Pearson won the 1968 NASCAR championship in what? A 1968 Ford Torino powered by (you guessed it) a 427 with a giant "427 CI" scrawled on the hood.
Was there something I said that was false?
The 427 was listed in literature through March or April 1968 until the 428 CJ was introduced. But the 427 was only installed in the Cougar in 1968.
