Cairo – Egypt: President Katerina Sakellaropoulou of the Republic of Greece, during her official visit to Alexandria, engaged in a significant meeting at the Patriarchate with Pope and Patriarch Theodore II on May 10,2024. The encounter highlighted the President’s acknowledgment of the Patriarch’s steadfast leadership amidst challenges, praising his role as a prominent figure in guiding the Greek Orthodox faithful across Africa and maintaining strong communication ties with Egypt.

In a momentous gesture, Pope Theodore II conferred upon President Sakellaropoulou the esteemed Grand Cross of Saint Mark with a star, the highest honor of the Patriarchate, in recognition of her contributions to Greek-Egyptian relations and her visit. Following the ceremony, the President had the opportunity to explore the Patriarchate’s exhibition area and library, immersing herself in its rich cultural and historical heritage.

The warm reception at the Patriarchate, led by Metropolitan Panteleimon, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, underscored the significance of President Sakellaropoulou’s visit and reaffirmed the enduring bonds between Greece and the esteemed Patriarchate of Alexandria.
