The Grateful Dead was a roots American music influenced band. Jerry Garcia played banjo and bluegrass music prior to joining the Grateful Dead and throughout their career they covered classic American music from multiple genres. Songs performed by the Grateful Dead included bluegrass, blues, jazz, country and western classics as well as songs which now are in the canon of American Folk Music standards themselves. Terrapin Flyer is a nationally touring Grateful Dead band from Chicago that has been performing for the last 25 years. Over that time many legendary musicians have joined tours including former members of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band. Terrapin Flyer has performed with many notable musicians, including Melvin Seals from the Jerry Garcia Band, Vince Welnick, Tom Constanten from the Grateful Dead and many other Dead-related musicians.
