Elinor Murphy O’Brien

Age 78, died in San Rafael on September 22nd, 2005. Married 50 years to the late Alfred O’Brien, Elinor is survived by five children: Anne Mendoza of Fairfield, Cecilia Morales of Rohnert Park, Elizabeth O’Brien of San Rafael, Thomas O’Brien of Kelseyville and Mary O’Brien of Novato, by nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Carol Murphy of Stockton and the late Lois Murphy of Capitola.

Born in San Francisco on January 30, 1927, Elinor attended St. Emydius Grammar School and Star of the Sea High School. Until her marriage, she worked at the main office of the Hibernia Bank in San Francisco. Immediately after marriage, Elinor and Al moved to the newly developed community of Terra Linda in San Rafael. Both were active members of the newly build St. Isabella’s Catholic Church. An excellent seamstress, Elinor made several sets of vestments for her new church.

Family and friends are invited to the recitation of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 25th at St. Isabella’s, 1 Trinity Way, San Rafael (off Freitas Parkway). A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 26th, also at St. Isabella’s. Interment will be at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Gustine, CA on Wednesday, September 28th at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Marin, 17 East Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939-1727
