'The Bookie & The Bruiser': Vince Vaughn & Adrien Brody Will Star In S. Craig Zahler's New Crime Drama

Apparently, Vince Vaughn and S. Craig Zahler can’t get enough of each other. Vaughn stars in the most recent two Zahler films, and now, the duo are reuniting for a period crime drama, “The Bookie & The Bruiser.”

According to Variety, Vince Vaughn and Adrien Brody are set to star in S. Craig Zahler’s new crime drama, “The Bookie & The Bruiser.” The film is set in 1959 New York City where two World War II friends combine forces to start a gambling organization. Of course, that puts them clearly in the sights of an Irish gang and the mafia.

As mentioned, Vaughn has teamed with Zahler on two previous films, “Brawl in Cell Block 99” and “Dragged Across Concrete.” This is the first time Brody has worked with the filmmaker, who has made a name for himself with his no-holds-barred, violent dramas. Zahler’s first film is the Western “Bone Tomahawk.” Interesting side-note: in between making his own films, Zahler also wrote the screenplay for “Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich,” which is an underrated entry in the absurd horror franchise.

Vaughn has enjoyed a long career in Hollywood, with some of his more recent films including “Queenpins,” “North Hollywood,” and the horror-comedy, “Freaky.” Brody has also earned a lot of respect over the decades and most recently can be seen in films such as “Asteroid City,” “Manodrome,” and “Ghosted.”

“The Bookie & The Bruiser” is set to take part in the upcoming Cannes film market, where it’s expect to nab a distribution pretty easily.
