Can I select seats when booking Qatar/VA code share flights?
Platinum VFF: Last October I booked a codeshare flight with ANA from Sydney to Tokyo, but wasn’t able to book a seat. I called customer support at both ANA and Virgin Australia but I had to wait until I got to the airport. I was travelling alone, so it wasn’t the worst thing, and as luck would have it I got my preferred aisle seat on both flights.
This December we’re looking to fly to Europe as a family, and I’d like to book a code share with Qatar to get sectors etc. Does anyone know if I can select seats at the time of booking? I’d hate to run the gauntlet of airport seat allocation at Xmas time.
If booking with Qatar, they will let you put your velocity number in and choose seats. I think it was a short time after booking that they opened the seat selection up.
You will also be able to use the Qatar lounge at Doha to refresh and shower halfway through due to partner lounges.
But if you book with Qatar it’s not a code share right? Then I don’t get the eligibility sectors.
When I travelled in January, I had to pay for seat selection prior to check in with Qatar. I'm platinum and you don't get it free.
Did you book with Virgin and then login to Qatar with the reservation number?
Qatar booking all the way. Still earn status thru velocity.
But you don’t earn sectors though do you?
I did have virgin flight numbers and even set up a Qatar frequent flyer account which didn't help.
When I rang Qatar, they said Velocity platinum are not eligible for free seat selection.
If you haven’t already, check out the stopover prices. They significantly reduced our ticket costs.
That’s awesome, how did you do this?! Was it stopover but with points - all on the same ticket?
We ended up doing cash as it was so reasonable. I believe the govt is subsidising the stopover, hence the value. The Qatar site has a stopover tab to help compare prices and possibilities.
Good to know, thanks. I prefer flying Qatar, and wouldn’t mind checking out Doha for a couple of days.
