Just finished No Country for Old Men

Appreciation

This is one of if not my favorite novels of all time. It’s done super well. I originally watched the movie, and I liked it a lot. However, the ending was sub par and felt dry to me. I recently bought the book and could not stop reading it. It’s great. Cormac is a wonderful author with a way to write and describe things like no one else. The ending is great, the character dynamics and developments are great, and he does a great job at making Anton intimidating. Overall, I really enjoyed the book, and wanted to show my appreciation for McCarthy’s crowning achievement.

Typed so fire I’d expect your phone to combust 🙏

It’s gotta be very difficult to make a McCarthy novel into a movie. Complex characters, zero Hollywood feel-good endings ever, prodding moral questions that make you feel worse if you do any introspection whatsoever, endings that just don’t bother to tie up loose ends…why any filmmaker interested in making any money would take this upon themselves is beyond me

I thought the Coen brothers fucking nailed it! I like the movie better than the book.

I believe that Llewelyn’s and Bell’s endings are better in the book. Just my opinion though

They're...the same?

Not really. In the movie, Bell ends at Ellis’ house. In the book, it moves farther from that. While Llewelyn’s endings are fairly similar, I believe that the book displays it better. I also just like how Bell is presented in the book more with all of his commentaries at the beginning of chapters

Cormac is definitely meant for books and not the screen.

I wanna see Paul Thomas Anderson do BM or the coens are the only ones who can still get off track of reality and still weave a narrative.

Try William Faulkner. As I lay dying might please you.

Thanks for the recommendation! I was planning on reading The Road, but I’ll definitely check that out
