After holding discussions with head coach Julian Nagelsmann, midfielder Toni Kroos, 34, reversed his decision to retire from international duty in July 2021 and has been included in Germany's provisional squad for Euro 2024. Additionally, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, 38, returns to the national team after a hiatus since 2022, when he suffered a leg injury following the Qatar World Cup.

Notable omissions from the squad include Bayern Munich duo Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry, while Tottenham striker Timo Werner is absent due to a hamstring injury. Despite their key roles in Borussia Dortmund's journey to the Champions League final, Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt did not make the 27-man squad. The squad will be trimmed to 26 following Germany's friendly matches against Ukraine and Greece in June.

Among the players selected, former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, and Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross feature prominently. Germany, who exited the group stage in the last two World Cups and were eliminated in the Round of 16 at Euro 2020, enter this summer's tournament as one of the favorites.

The 2014 World Cup winners will kick off their campaign on June 14 against Scotland in Munich.
