Jason Aldean Performs Tear-Jerking Tribute to Toby Keith at the 2024 ACM Awards
Keith died on Feb. 5 at the age of 62 after being diagnosed with cancer
Jason Aldean is paying tribute to his late friend Toby Keith.
The country star, 47, sang one of Keith's biggest hits at the 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awardswhich streamed live on Prime Video Thursday night, May 16. Keith died in February at the age of 62 after being diagnosed with stomach cancer.
For the performance, Aldean graced the stage and performed an acoustic version of Keith's "Should've Been a Cowboy," causing Keith's family to shed tears as they watched from the audience.
The "Try That in a Small Town" singer announced the plan to honor the "Red Solo Cup" singer in his Instagram Storieson Tuesday, May 14.
"Honored to pay tribute to my friend, the one and only @tobykeith with a special performance of "Should've Been a Cowboy"at the @acmawards. Join me as we celebrate his legacy and the mark he left on country music," he wrote over a photo of Keith in the announcement.
The 1993 song is the first single Keith ever released and is from his debut self-titled album released the same year.
The live show also featured live performances by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, Kelsea Ballerini with “Stick Season” singer Noah Kahan and Post Malone, who made his ACMs performance debut.

New male artist of the year nominee Nate Smith also performed on Thursday night with Avril Lavigneand Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson and host Reba McEntire also performed live.
The 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards are streaming live on Prime Video from Ford Center at The Star in Texas.

Here’s the thing: Experts say that the best way to keep mosquitoes at bay is to use personal repellents recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But if you want to go a more natural route, you may be interested in selecting certain plants—they’re just not necessarily guaranteed to work as well as a spray. “The idea that planting certain plants around your home will successfully repel mosquitoes is only supported by anecdotal evidence and not empirical evidence,” says Eva Buckner, Ph.D., assistant professor and state extension specialist at the University of Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory. It’s important to note, though, that there is some evidence that certain plants may help discourage certain mosquitoes from setting up camp in your yard—they just don’t work as well as a chemical or spray. If it feels like your outdoor space is a haven to mosquitoes, it’s a good idea to “eliminate mosquito breeding grounds on and around your property by draining standing water from flowerpots, birdbaths, grill covers, baby pools, and other sources,” says Jim Fredericks, Ph.D., board-certified entomologist and senior vice president of public affairs at the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). Using a small fan outside may also help keep mosquitoes away since “they are not strong flyers,” Fredericks says. But if you like the look and smell of certain plants and want to see if they keep the mosquitoes away, too, there’s no reason not to try them.
