Summary

  • Wesley Snipes' vague response to Blade rumors neither confirms nor denies his return, leaving fans intrigued.
  • Snipes hasn't played Blade since 2004 but expressed interest in returning to the role in the MCU.
  • A potential MCU appearance for Snipes could be in Deadpool & Wolverine or Avengers: Secret Wars.

Wesley Snipes responded to rumors that he is returning as Blade in the MCU, spawning speculation that the actor could reprise his role as the legendary vampire killer. Snipes first played Marvel's famous daywalker in 1998's Blade and returned as the character in 2002's Blade II and in 2004's Blade: Trinity. While Mahershala Ali is planned to debut as the MCU's Blade in 2025, there is a possibility that Snipes could reprise the role before Ali's movie comes out, and the actor fueled the flames by responding to these rumors.

On X, Snipes shared a link to an article from Screengeek that detailed the rumors behind his return as Blade in the MCU. According to the article, Snipes will return in an upcoming movie, though which one was not known.

The actor wrote the caption, "Whuhuuuut?" with eyeball emojis. His response is intentionally vague, as Marvel likes to keep everything under wraps, but there may be some meaning behind his ostensibly shocked response.

What Wesley Snipes' Response To The Blade Return Rumors Means

He Doesn't Debunk Them, But He Doesn't Confirm Them Either

Snipes response is hard to translate. He could be pretending to be shocked by this news because he is in the MCU and has to lie and say he isn't, or he's not returning, and he's genuinely confused by these rumors. His statement doesn't confirm his return, but it also doesn't kill these rumors. Snipes hasn't played Blade in a film since 2004, but he did reprise the role in a hilarious cameo in What We Do In The Shadows where he appeared at a vampire meeting via webcam.

He loves the character and hasn't previously declined the opportunity to reprise Blade. In a 2022 interview, Snipes discussed returning as Blade for the MCU. The actor said "Never say never," but Marvel had not contacted him at the time about joining the universe.

Never say never. Long as I'm healthy and in shape, I can rock with them. Yeah, as far as my predictions on if something like that happened in future, I don't know. I don't know. It seems to me if it would've happened, it would've happened already. But hey, never say never. No, [Marvel Studios has not approached me] as of yet. I'm still working on my acting skills. So when I come up as an actor, maybe they'll reach out and say, 'Let's have a conversation,' or maybe they don't feel I'm ensemble player.

If Snipes does appear in the MCU, it most likely won't be in Blade, as Marvel wants Ali to shine in the role without any comparisons. Snipes could appear in Deadpool & Wolverine as the upcoming film will be a cameo-fest that brings back many past Marvel actors. He could also appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, which could be a multiversal battle between multiple generations of Marvel heroes and villains. Either way, it would be great to see Snipes return to a hero he first brought to life and still kick some vampire butt.
