We’re totally excited to see a never-seen-before avatar of actress Anya Taylor-Joy as the female lead in the upcoming film of the Mad Max franchise. However, it has not been a bed of roses for the actor herself. Taylor-Joy, who plays Imperator Furiosa, recently revealed the challenges she faced while filming George Miller’s upcoming movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. She has taken over from Charlize Theron, in this new instalment of the Mad Max franchise. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Taylor-Joy described her experience on set as incredibly intense. She reportedly spent months filming wordless action sequences and analysing her acting choices in great detail.
“I’ve never been more alone than making that movie. Everything that I thought was going to be easy was hard,” she said.
The actress explained to the New York Times that Miller had a very specific vision for Furiosa’s character, which sometimes clashed with her interpretation. “He had a very, very strict idea of what Furiosa’s war face looked like, and that only allowed me my eyes for a large portion of the movie,” Taylor-Joy said. “It was very much ‘mouth closed, no emotion, speak with your eyes.’ That’s it, that’s all you have.”
Despite these challenges, Taylor-Joy expressed her admiration for Miller and his creative vision. “I love George and if you’re going to do something like this, you want to be in the hands of someone like George Miller,” she said.
Meanwhile, Taylor-Joy’s co-star, Chris Hemsworth, has also praised her dedication to the role saying that he found what his co-star did inspiring because she was there every single day for months on end and was as fiercely protective of the character, informs The Hollywood Reporter.
Despite the challenges, Taylor-Joy said she has no regrets about taking on the role. “There’s not everyone in the world that has made a Mad Max movie, and I swear to God, everyone that I’ve met that has, there’s a look in our eyes: We know. There’s an immediate kinship of like,” she added.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is set to premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2024, with a theatrical release in Australia on 23 May 2024, followed by the United States the next day.
