Jackson Publick took Patrick Warburton with him and did The Venture Bros.
Loved The Venture Brothers! That new special movie was awesome too!
Something about a baboons heart I think. I watched the whole show and the movie. The venture brothers was the pinnacle of television for years.
The Venture Bros is my personal greatest show of all time…
Go team Venture! ✌️
Mecha Shiva Mecha Shiva!!
What's that Henrietta? You want to wash me... down there?
A very reasonable opinion
This show was Jackson Publick?!
I never knew that, but I’ve always loved this show, I still have the DVDs but haven’t watched in many years. My love for it feels validated, knowing that. Thank you!
No wonder the live action was funnier than the cartoon.
Chris McCullough aka Jackson Public was a writer for The Tick. Ben Edlund is the creator.
Ben Edlund(creator of The Tick) wrote "Viva Los Muertos!", the only VB episode not written by either Doc or Jackson.
No matter how many other things I see him in, when I see Nestor Carbonell, I say “it’s Batmanuel”
Me too! Every. Time.
Batmanuel was even the mayor of Gotham City!
“Wait, what size are you?”
“I’m Batmanuel size.”
Herein, you see the power of the suit. Women cannot resist the suit. Men cannot resist the suit. Dogs...
To this day, I still quote:
"Alone is an unfortunate predicament. Lone is an aesthetic choice."
ring ring "hello, Batmanuel"
“On a roof, of course!”
Oh please I wasn’t born yesterday. However I am still quite young
I saw him and his family on the ferry to Catalina, and that's exactly what I said! I never watched Lost, so I only recognized him as Batmanuel.
It was the hardest part of Lost for me to adjust to
Patrick was so perfecly cast. Actually they all were
Shame the show never really took off.
Literally 9-11
Yeah that didn't help. Putting it up against NBC Thursday night lineup wasn't smart either. Plus it's not really a mainstream kind of show and they kept moving it around the schedule as well. I'm glad they tried again on Amazon and at least that got more than one season
Yeah
I really loved the Amazon series. They were both so good. Needs to be brung back. Especially now that super hero shows are more common.
Wow really?! Never knew that
I loved the Tick so much! And Patrick Warburton was so perfect for the role.
Bat Manuel is not alone… Bat Manuel is Lone.
Not everyone is Batmanuel. In fact, only I am!
Ah, I thought I recognized that smell, soccer mommy.
The Tick deserved better from us all.. Such an underrated god tier series.. From the cartoon to both of the live actions.
Who puts gum on a roof?!
...bring forth that black bile that men call "coffee"
Java devil, you are now my bitch.
I thought this was forgotten TV, this series is seared into my memory through childhood fever dreams.
I enjoyed the animated version more.
Yes and The Amazon live action series
Dude, I ran across the Amazon series and jumped on that shit. Had no idea it existed.
They did a great job of using the general idea, combined with the creative liberties they took. They really made a fun show with that. I would’ve loved more seasons.
Me too, I was bummed when I got to the end
Same here.
Ben Edlund even tried shopping the series around post cancellation to other streamers/networks and got no bites. Sad.
This is the reason I don't wanna watch it. Saw episode one, liked it, wondered why there was only one season. And when I looked it up my desire to watch more died.
I mean, the original live action series took liberties with the characters. I remember fan base being PISSED back in the day. I personally found the plot, character, and stories from this version much more entertaining than the original live action series.
I thought the Amazon live action was so good.
The animated version was my introduction to the character which I loved to death which lead me to the comics which I adored and then both live action series. I love every version of The Tick. They are all fantastic and all short lived (except the animated series I guess). The Tick is just to beautiful for this world it seems.
SPOON indeed!
I agree they are all fantastic but I think the cartoon really got it the most perfect
"If you could be a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" - correspondent Sally Vacuum.
Animated version was excellent
To turn Die Fledermaus into Bat Manuel was a crime.
Bat Manuel was better. But, I preferred American Maid to Captain Liberty.
To turn Die Fledermaus into Bat Manuel was a crime.
At first I was upset about them not using the name Die Fledermaus, but Bat Manuel is a really good name too.
I remember showing this to a friend in 2005 and watching the joy this show gave him. I think the Amazon show was just as good.
This is the only Tick media I've been exposed to. Never saw the cartoon. I have major props to Ben Edlund as he's basically the reason the creators of the Venture Brothers even met (one of my all time favorites). I'd watch anything with Patrick Warburton, and I swoon over Liz Vassey as Captain Liberty. Sad that this had a pretty short run. I tried watching the Amazon series, probably my fault that I didn't get into it because I jumped in at a random episode (written by VB creator Chris McCulloch/Jackson Publick, who was a regular for most tick media) but couldn't get into it.
The Amazon series is rad but it’s a bit of a slow start. The tone change is one of the jokes as far as I can tell. Season two almost perfect.
The cartoon is sublime. If you liked venture brothers you will like it
The first few episodes were really brilliant. Worthy of the comic and cartoon.
Loved the early live action episodes too, but increased production values in the later episodes spoiled it for me. It was like putting Adam West in Michael Keaton's Batman costume - total change of tone.
I’ll fold you into my wallet and spend you on a whore!
Crazy this comic had three different shows.
This is the one true The Tick live action show.
Batmanuel was my email at one point.
This was really just a year? Why is this such a big memory of my childhood? Lol I remember the commercials, I thought it was earlier too like mid-late 90s
I don’t even think we got ten episodes
God the episode with Friendly Fire and Fiery Blaze was epic.
Patrick Warburton can do no wrong in my book.
"I'm starting to like the cut of this man's gibberish."
There has never been a bad adaptation of The Tick.
The Tick is probably one of my favorite superheroes and also one of my favorite cartoon series of all time. In 1993, when I was 15, I got my first VHS camera, and we needed to name our indie "production company."" You know, to be 2 legit 2 quit for when our VHS movies made it to Hollywood! LOL.
I was watching The Tick one Saturday morning on Fox Kids, Tick yells his "SPOOOOON!" Battle Cry, and that's when I was struck with 15 year old inspiration!
"Dudes. The name of our movie production company will be "Spoon Pictures"! After The Tick!
We all thought it was the coolest name for a movie company, ever.
30 years later, I'm still making indie movies, and yes, we never changed it!
I have met The Tick Creator Ben Edlund a few times at SDCC and once on the 07/08 WGA strike. We got to chatting, and I told him the story of our production company was Spoon Pictures, after The Tick!
He got a REALLY big kick out of it and chuckled. He thought it was a cool name! I even got him to sign a Tick Comic with a The Tick on the cover once at SDCC.
Ben signed the special con cover with a dialog bubble from Tick, and it read, "SPOOOON PICTURES!" on it. Full circle moment for teenage me, now, all these years later here in front of the man at comic-con who, in his own way, helped us dream too. He signed the comic and absolutely legitimized the "silly" name from all those years ago. It wasn't a fun name anymore. We now were 2 legit 2 quit. Hollywood style.
I cried happy tears, walking back to my hotel room afterward.
Thanks for the inspiration, Tick and Ben. :)
Batmanuel :“I saved them three times in one night if you know what I mean. “
Tick: Nope!
The Tick is the granddaddy of superhero parody — also thought the “Peacemaker” series on HBO was the closest evolutionary equivalent of this..
What is Arthur DOING???
This show was great. I was so sad we only got the one season.
This was such a good show! One of my all time favorites.
Spoon!!!!!!!
Can never forget this show. The pilot alone was better than the everything the newer version ever made.
I bet you didn’t watch all of it
Like losing bets, do ya?
Loved this show
Listen to me very carefully. You are now my bitch.
Love love love this show!!! It's where my reddit habdle came from!
"You're on a first name basis with lucidity my friend... I have to call him Mr. Lucidity; and that's no good in a pinch."
Is this image weirdly edited or am I just not remembering how smooth and weird Patrick looks here? Been a while since I rewatched it.
My wife still use some quotes.
"The brain baby is kicking."
"Worst candy ever!"
"If you know what I mean."
“Are you expecting someone?”
“I’m always….expecting someone.”
AND
“Tick, this is like bigamy!”
“Not like, chum. This is awful big of you!”
“Where are you?” “On a roof, where else?”
I have some of the original Tick drawings when it was in New England comics in the late 80s/early 90s. Anyone know if it’s worth anything?
