Well, it's been a long and eventful day.

The headline news is that Celtic are almost home and dry after beating 10-man Rangers 2-1.

The champions are six points clear of their Old Firm rivals with six to play for - and they have a superior goal difference to boot.

At the wrong end of the table, Ross County and St Johnstone both lost, so the Perth club remain in the play-off spot.

Livingston manager David Martindale tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we started the game really bad. We looked like a team who have just been relegated and that St Johnstone had a lot to play for.

"We were lucky to go into half-time 1-0 down.

"I’d love to see Cristian Montano with 38 games under his belt. He’s been hampered with injuries since he came here but he seems to chip in with big goals. Fair credit to him, he was really tired at the end of the game. He’s been a big miss for us.

"Credit to the players, you can see they are still trying to win games of football."

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes is asked by BBC Radio Scotland how he feels after securing Europa League football.

"It’s magic hearing that," is how the Rugby Park supremo responds. "It’s something we never started out to do, but for the last few weeks, it's something we’ve been searching for.

"To do it with another clean sheet, it was important we had another big hurrah in us and we were good enough in difficult circumstances."

McInnes also highlights the impact of his front four, wingers Danny Armstrong and Matty Kennedy and strikers Kyle Vassell and Marley Watkins. Vassell netted the decisive goal today.

"It’s quite fitting my captain scores the goal that gets us to Europe," McInnes adds.

"As a front two, those have been terrific, the combination between the two of them. I play with two wingers and two strikers, not because they’re luxury players, it’s because they’re responsible and work as hard as anybody else, and I know they are capable with big moments."

St Johnstone manager Craig Levein tells BBC Scotland: "It’s a strange game isn’t it? It’s probably the best we’ve played since I have come into the club. We created loads of chances and we come off with zero points, which is baffling to say the least.

"We’ve been looking for good performances and today was our best performance of the season. We just couldn’t convert that into points.

"We made a couple of mistakes defensively and when you are down the bottom end of the table, you can’t afford to miss chances and to make mistakes in your own box.

"I was proud of the way they played. They fought tooth and nail and did everything they could to get the points, but it just wasn’t to be. The encouraging thing for me is that that performance is in them.

"We are all in the dressing room and feeling sore. But we recognise that is the type of energy we need on Wednesday night (at home to Ross County). If we play like that on Wednesday, I’ll be more than happy."

Inverness Caley Thistle have not been outside the top two divisions since 1999 and now they move on to a final against Hamilton Academical to preserve their Championship status.

The Highlanders finished the regular season with a positive goal difference of +1 but they don't score enough.

Duncan Ferguson's side needed club hero Billy Mckay to bail them out today with the only goal against Montrose.

Accies hit five over two legs against Alloa and finished League 1 with a +45 goal difference.

Hearts head coach Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "Good performance, clean sheet first of all. We were secure out of possession.

"When we started moving the ball quicker in the second half, we created more chances and we scored some good goals so, yeah, pleasing afternoon.

"[Barrie McKay's] quality is there. He's still not fit so that's a work in progress. He's got unbelievable quality. We rotated the team and we will do the rest of the week. We trust every player that plays."

St Johnstone are in the mire now. Confidence is going to be low.

There's a difference between tired and unfit.

My experience of Craig Levein is grinding players into the ground and just expecting that robots will continue to perform.

St Johnstone should have had the game done and dusted. They had chance after chance. There were three good opportunities before they scored on eight minutes and they kept coming.

Craig Levein will be thinking 'how did we lose that game?'

Stuart Kettlewell is finishing the season really strongly after being under pressure. Remember, it was 15 games without a win.

Motherwell were right to stick with the manager and now they are being rewarded.

His job now is to persuade players to stick around, convince them that he's going to take the club forward.

Ross County looked flat, they lacked energy and creativity.

They will be safe if they beat St Johnstone on Wednesday but Don Cowie has a job to do.

That is an absolute sickener for St Johnstone.

From being completely in control of the game, to taking nothing from it.

Credit to Livingston, already down but showing the fighting spirit to take advantage of Saints’ lack of ruthlessness.

The crazy game of football is summed up by Nicky Clark’s failure to score at one end when clean through, only for Andrew Shinnie to go up and net at the other immediately after.

Hats off to Spartans. The Edinburgh side have made quite the splash in their first season in the SPFL and are now in the final for promotion to League 1.

A five-star performance for Motherwell, making it nine goals in two Scottish Premiership games.

That lifts them above Aberdeen and Hibs, who meet tomorrow.

This thumping could have hurt more for Ross County since Don Cowie's side remain two points clear in 10th after St Johnstone's defeat.

Kilmarnock are heading for the Europa League!

They wrap up fourth place in the Scottish Premiership, and a spot in the continental tournament’s second qualifying round, with a gritty win in Paisley.

Kyle Vassell bagged the only goal, smashing home after a brilliant counter-attack started by Danny Armstrong.

Marley Watkins, who provided the assist, had several opportunities to stretch the away lead, while Toyosi Olusanya’s longe-range drive rattled the Kilmarnock crossbar at the other end.

With Dundee losing at Tynecastle, St Mirren are still in pole position to finish fifth and book a spot in the Conference League qualifiers.
