Pat Patterson was one of the most influential men in WWE history, and his creative input was all over the product in the 80s and 90s. Without him, it’s possible that talents like Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels would have never risen above the Intercontinental Championship level.
However, WWE is now facing yet another lawsuit, this time in Canada, with former independent referee Matthew Robidoux alleging that back in 2004, Patterson offered to get him hired in exchange for sexual favors. In addition, documents obtained by The Hannibal TV confirm Robidoux is also suing the estate of Patterson and claims he also took advantage of Billy Jack Hayes, Jim Powers, and Rob Van Dam.
French Canadian Patterson, real name Pierre Clermont, died in 2020 at the age of 79 due to liver failure caused by a blood clot. Yet, while WWE honored his life on NXT, it should be noted that his time with WWE was far from drama-free, with him at one time being let go due to his name being included in the underage ring boys scandal during the 90s. Still, he was subsequently rehired, with nothing ever being proven, and his closest allies suspected he was targeted due to being openly gay.
