- Older lady who appears in Ghost promos (so random, what's her purpose?)
- Odd elements like Papa farting in one of the promo vids (cheapens Papa?)

The goofy elements are what makes them special.
Honestly. Often when I'm listening, I grin big and stupidly, and think "You're so silly, Tobias."
Exactly. I know it's Ghost when I'm grinning and saying to myself, "This is so stupid." 😅
I don't disagree that it helps set them apart, but let's not pretend they didn't have something special going on before turned the silliness up to 11. Back in the Meliora/Popestar era there was a little bit of humor and a little bit of goofing around, but it felt balanced. The concerts still had the vibe of the early days - a little spooky, a bit of theatrics (Still using the Sisters of Sin for example), but a bit more lighthearted than the earliest days of the band. I think they've taken the goofiness a little too far, starting towards the back end of the Prequel cycle. My personal opinion is it's all cheapened the effect a little bit from what made Ghost special in the first place. I personally found it a little...jarring also, because it felt like a very rapid shift in tone. Even looking at the start of the Prequelle era and the end of the Prequel era, the whole tone and vibe of the band was totally different, in the span of about 18 months. Just my opinion on all of this of course, but I do wish they'd dial it back a bit.
The inherent evil in the band is what initially attracted me.
The chapters and the jokes, slapstick, etc were and are funny, but the distancing themselves from the darkness aspect has become a bit much.
Going to one of the shows this past summer was like going to a goth Taylor Swift show. I guess they'd be called, "Ghifties"? Instagram photo ops throughout.
I guess I'm getting too old for this shit, as Danny Glover once famously said in that one ghovie, erm, movie.
They've crossed the precipice of darkness and evil and are now fullly ensconced in critical mass mode. Or ghritical mass, as the preferred nomenclature would be. <shrug>
Agree with all of that. Still love the music, but nowadays it kind of starts and stops there for me.

Isn't it so random that this very central-to-the-lore character from as far back as Meliora is in their promos?! 🤣

So you've seen the promos but never watched any of the Chapters?? Are you aware that Ghost has fictional lore beyond just the Papa characters? Sister Imperator is not random and she definitely has a purpose lol
Ehh, it's a gimmick that works to distinguish them from other bands in the same field. I don't personally care too much about the theatrics, the lore or the neverending merch based on it, but lots of people do and if it sells, that's a win for them. It's easy enough to ignore if you only listen to the music.
Most metal bands have a "storytelling" gimmick anyway, it's just that Ghost is probably the most mainstream of them that leans explicitly into religion.

Even if it's not always my kind of jokes I love that Tobias has this kind of silly humor. The chapters make me facepalm with pride 😂

It’s never bothered me, it’s camp and Tobias is a huge horror fan, I see a lot of elements of cheesy B horror movies in his skits.
I wish it wasn't as cartoony as it is now.

The very first interview of Papa Emeritus I was goofy as heck.
I saw Papa I twice.
The band did have a spookier, doomier edge pre-Meloria, don’t get me wrong, but are you telling me that you didn’t think Papa looked goofy? Along with the cheaper looking ghoul costumes? Ghost has never been entirely serious.
Even Papa II made stupid jokes, blew kisses, returned a heart hand gesture to someone. There was also the Papaganda parody videos.
Corniness and juvenile humour has been part of Ghosts make-up from the very beginning.

Tobias is a huge goofy,funny exhibitionist he says so himself . So to me the band has very much always being tongue in cheek ,he wants people to forget about shit in the World and laugh and enjoy themselves.
Obviously I adore their music I listen to it every day but the silliness is what draws me in too . You only have to see any Papa on stage live to see their interactions to see they’re been goofy . Don’t take it all so seriously just enjoy the music and being in the now .
