I need to be the superior movie picker
My girlfriend and I are currently partially long distance. Due to the distance, we try to spend our time bonding by doing things together, but virtually. One of the activities we partake in is watching movies together. We have this competition to see who picks the better movies
I’m looking for a movie that is everything she loves so I can blow her out of the water. She likes the following: time period movies that are not only accurate but have a decent plot. She loves color theory in movies and always seems to point it out when she notices. She also is a sucker for romance, but not afraid of a little action. The plot doesn’t necessarily have to be completely romantic as her favorite movie is sucker punch. She likes a little bit of the spook sometimes too!
From what I’ve gathered, here is a short list her favorites (in no particular order): sucker punch, last night in soho, atonement, crimson peak, kill bill, Jane air, pride and prejudice, Tim Burton Alice in wonderland, and zombieland.
Knowing her favorites and what she enjoys, what would you suggest? Your answer may help me become the best movie picker!

Twelfth Night (From the wikipedia: "is a 1996 romantic comedy film adaptation of William Shakespeare's play, directed by Trevor Nunn and featuring an all-star cast. Set in the late 19th century"
If she likes that, there are other Shakespeare adaptations:
Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing
Midsummer Night's Dream - either the 1936 black and white or the 1999 color version.
If you want to go really old school black and white there are a couple of great rom-coms from the 1930s

It Happened One Night
Predator. The body mass alone…

I used Anna karenina as my choice tonight. SHE FELL IN FUCKING LOVE! I quite honestly really enjoyed this movie too and we’ve been discussing for about an hour so far. She has also purchased the book! Thank you so much!
Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I've heard the film veers a bit from the book but I loved how it's staged. Literally one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Amazing art direction and set design.
Hah I appreciate the stage pun. And I agree completely. Every scene in this movie was beautifully shot. My only qualm was not seeing alexeis reaction to Anna’s suicide but I think we already saw it when his horse died. Gosh this was such a good recommendation. I can’t thank you enough!
Moulin Rouge
Slumdog Millionaire
City of God
Belle (2013)
Brooklyn

Far from the Madding Crowd (2015)
The Invitation (2022)

It’s a fun mix of a few of the things you mentioned.
Noticed a trend of heroine leads who challenge gender stereotypes and exceed traditional expectations. Based on this, I'd recommend:
-Coraline
-La La Land
-Lady Bird
-The Menu
You sir hit the nail on the head!
Dangerous Liaisons
