THE HARVEY SOCIETY Seventh Lecture: 2023-2024 series

Rachel Green from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine will deliver a lecture titled "Concentration matters: Ribosome collisions and homeostasis" at 8 PM in Caspary Auditorium at Rockefeller University, 1230 York Avenue, NY NY.

LECTURE ABSTRACT: Ribosomes are critical constituents of the cell both for protein expression and for driving cell fate signaling decisions. We use genetic, proteomic, biochemical and ribosome profiling approaches in bacteria, yeast and mammals to identify and characterize critical factors involved in recognizing ribosome dysfunction. Central to these events is a collided ribosome that serves as a hub to integrate interactions with the QC machinery as well as cellular signaling pathways. Key kinases that directly bind to ribosome collisions to signal downstream responses include GCN2 and the MAP3K ZAK which are a major focus of our work. Our recent efforts have focused on biochemical and phosphoproteomic approaches to decipher the signaling networks that allow cells to mount a measured response to environmental insults. We are now exploring the role of these pathways in cells that experience different translational regimes including in different cancer contexts. Finally, we are also exploring how ribosome homeostasis is maintained during stress and in distinct cell types and states of differentiation. https://greenlabjhmi.org/
