The alternate reality "Captain Luthor" really being John Henry Irons was a huge twist in Superman & Lois' first season. The character, played by Wolé Parks, has had a recurring presence in the series ever since and donned an impressive suit of armour on several occasions.

He's even earned himself the "Man of Steel" moniker, but a newly revealed photo from Superman & Lois' series finale seemingly confirms John will finally suit up as Steel.

As you'll see in the photo below, graffiti depicts Irons in his trademark armour, albeit with a red cape and Superman's iconic "S" shield on his chest. While this could be little more than an Easter Egg, season 4 may see him finally take on that iconic "Steel" moniker as another of Metropolis' protectors.

Parks was among the actors who were let go from Superman & Lois amid budget cuts, though many of those previously recurring cast members are expected to show up for guest roles in this fourth and final batch of episodes.

In the comics, Steel first appeared in Adventures of Superman #500 in 1993. Inspired by the legend of John Henry, he's an engineer who dons a suit of powered armour to fight crime and protect the innocent.

After witnessing the death and destruction caused by a weapons project he helped develop, Irons uses his skills to create a suit of high-tech armor and weapons and made his big screen debut in 1997's Steel starring Shaquille O'Neal (it's widely considered one of the worst comic book movies ever made)

Check out these new Superman & Lois set photos below.

Superman & Lois was developed by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti for The CW. The show stars Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. It follows the iconic superhero couple as they navigate the challenges of parenthood while also dealing with the responsibilities and dangers that come with being Earth's greatest protector.

The premise of Superman & Lois diverges slightly from traditional Superman stories by focusing more on the family dynamic between Clark, Lois, and their teenage sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent. The series explores how Clark balances his duties as Superman with his obligations as a husband and father, all while living in the small town of Smallville.

Superman & Lois is set to return to The CW with its fourth and final season this fall.

What’s the ratings looking like? Why is it getting canceled like the rest of CW?

supermanrex

@TheLight - you are so wrong. WB has had a long standing policy of not letting the big three be on both big screen and small screen. we only got tv superman when it was known that the movies were not moving forward. no live action batman since the 60s, superman live actions only occurred because no superman films were in theaters. doesn't matter who the director is once WB green lit a new superman film, superman and lois were in danger. its a tired ol business practice and its very [frick]ing annoying. especially since they are selling the multiverse now and the public knows what the [frick] that is.

@YouFlopped - because the CW only airs old scripted Canadian shows now.

@TheLight - The show is too expensive and not successful enough. That's why they had the slash the budget and let half the cast go just to even get the final season cleared. The cancellation was gonna happen Gunn or no Gunn.

@supermanrex - With that one exception in 2006 when Smallville was renewed for Season 6 after it's Season 5 finale and yet they were promoting like hell Brandon Routh's Superman Returns.

WB or Gunn whoever the hell above are just damn petty that TV can deliver half of the time better than their films.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 5/14/2024, 1:13 AM
@LeonNova - False about it not being successful. It's ratings remained as steady from S2, much better than what still remains of the original programming of scripted content of the old slate. (All American and Walker)

supermanrex - 5/14/2024, 9:29 AM
@NinnesMBC - smallville was a special case, because it was no flight no tights 99 percent of the time, and a young version Clark while routh was the older. so it was marketable as a two different products. Gunn i highly doubt was doing anything with the cancellations other than towing to company policies as he was just getting started and not trying to rock any boats before he can even get any clout. once gunn gets a few hits under his belt he will be able to start swinging his weight around a bit and fight things. Gunn is big on tv as well as movie so i dont see him being the source driving behind cancellations that WB discovery was going to do no matter what. WB is the only reason that two different batmen will be allowed to exist now. they want to keep getting cash off of pattinson's batman. WB will totally wait to see which Batman is the bigger draw at the BO then consolidate down to one either bringing pattinson in the gunn's universe or if gunns batman is better cancelling pattinson to save money on redundant movie making.

‘Celebrating 25 years of SteelWorks’
So is this scene set in the future? I initially thought maybe he became Steel and took up the ‘S’ after the events of Season 3 and he has been the ‘interim Superman’. But that graffiti seems to imply quite a time jump!

@CerealKiller1 - I wonder if it’s a flash forward to Jordan having taking over as Superman..

That could be cool.
NinnesMBC
NinnesMBC - 5/14/2024, 1:15 AM
@TheVisionary25 - Can you really imagine a forty-something Jordan showing up though? That's just a fishy thing to me that doesn't allow me to buy this big time jump.

As hard as it is to believe, we should consider a little of time travel shenanigans just in case. Luthor is pissed of all the time he lost without seeing his daughter (17 years), what would he be willing to do no matter what to get that back?

Theory for thought.

I really wish we could get a great adaptation of Steel. I had this awesome Steel action figure growing up that I absolutely loved. He's such an awesome character. Maybe Gunn can put him in the new DC films universe.

That’s cool however it’ll likely be just an Easter egg I feel…

Also , John Henry has pretty much been Steel for awhile now so he made his presence felt awhile ago so this isn’t a new thing.

Anyway , hopefully him aswell as the other characters get a satisfying ending in the show since it’s been solid so far imo!!.

That's been a pretty known spoiler around the Internet for a good while. Steel at least finally looks 95% accurate now.

Still have my doubts about such a time jump.

And Wolé Parks killed it as John Henry, he is perfect in the role. Looking for an actor for Gunn's DCU will be easier said than done.
