Colin in Black and White may have been released in 2021 but it seems like Frances Tiafoe has only just now gotten the chance to sit and watch. The series, based on the story of famous American football player and social activist Colin Kaepernick, not only captivated the attention of countless viewers but also made its way into the mind and heart of the ATP star.
Tiafoe, who is set to start his run for the Italian Open title against Dominic Koepfer in just a few hours, was presumably blowing off some steam. As a measure to keep himself off from stress, the ATP star took some time to binge a motivational documentary. “This was tuff as hell,” Tiafoe wrote, as he shared a screenshot of his Netflix app playing Colin in Black and White on his Instagram story.
Colin Kaepernick, who used to be an NFL pro, works on civil rights these days. Ditching his football career after some time, he started protesting against the unfair treatment of Black people by police in the US. He did this by kneeling during the national anthem at a game in 2016.

This made some people like him more, but of course, there were still some resenters. Kaepernick joined hands with Ava Duvernay to make a powerful movie mixing his own story with facts about how black people are treated unfairly in America.
The story of him isn’t just relatable to regular fans but to every other athlete who feels concerned with the issues of inequality. As Tiafoe took time to appreciate the story, it not only goes to the one who came up with the series but also to Kaepernick’s legendary efforts for a social cause.

It isn’t just Frances Tiafoe who appears to be influenced by Colin Kaepernick’s stand against racial injustice. Back when the renowned activist started his fight, he had to stay away from the NFL for almost three years. Viewing the story closely, Naomi Osaka came forward to defend his position back in 2020, urging the concerned ones to review his situation.
“Colin has been putting this message out since 2016. It took a pandemic, an economic crisis, and a torturous murder on camera, all at the same time, for people to really hear him,” she explained, pressing on the American football player’s efforts. Asking the NFL to reconsider his inclusion, she added, “It shouldn’t have been that way. If the NFL wants to show that they really care the first thing they should do is take a knee together and give Colin his job back.”
The 36-year-old has not stepped back into the NFL arena as a player but there have been rumors about his joining the coaching staff. The way things stand now, it’s unlikely that Colin Kaepernick will step back into his old life.
