Written by Falco and Dutch music producers Bolland & Bolland, “Rock Me Amadeus” became the first German-language song to peak at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1986. On May 10, 1986, it also topped the British singles charts and was a worldwide success, something rarely heard for a German song. “Rock Me Amadeus” remains Falco’s only No.1 in the U.S and the U.K, however, during his career he was able to produce other hits, including “Der Kommissar”, “Vienna Calling” or “Jeanny”. The song is about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, his popularity, and his debts, and it profited from the 1985 Milos Forman blockbuster hit movie “Amadeus”. In order to obtain a bigger commercial success, several different versions and remixes were made for it. The most popular version, it’s the 1985 German-language one released in Europe. For the international markets (United States, UK, Japan etc.), several different single and extended mixes were produced; none of them were solely an English-language version, but the international single versions reduced the German lyrics. However, the video, which featured the original European version, was used worldwide. Falco passed away in 1998 aged only 40 from a car accident while under the effects of cocaíne.
