my great uncle’s photo of the destroyed Blarney Castle tank November 1917
On further research this is apparently one of the most photographed tanks of ww1 & i have tried to find an exact match at this angle & haven’t been able to do so…which leads me to believe this is my great Uncle’s own image. Probably taken around November 24/25, 1917. He would turn 19 only 3 days later on the 28th of November. He was later wounded & captured by british troops on September 1st at the battle of Mont Saint-Quentin in Péronne and was a POW until his release in September of 1919. Less than 4 years later he immigrated to America.
Translation of back: “English tank in Fontaine Notre Dame. Tank battle in Cambrai November 1917.”
*captured September 1st of 1918
