After the controversial Channel 4 documentary against Kevin Spacey, a number of actors including Liam Neeson have come out in defense of the Oscar winner. Neeson called for the actor to be reinstated in the film industry, adding that he’s a man of character and a great actor. Fans are not happy with the Taken actor’s stand on the issue and took to X to express their discontent.
Spacey was found not liable in the s*xual harassment lawsuit filed against him in New York. He was also acquitted of all charges in a separate case in London. However, the new documentary, Spacey Unmasked, included testimonies from 10 different men, who were not involved in the lawsuit, accusing the actor of s*xual harassment.
Liam Neeson’s Support For Kevin Spacey Doesn’t Sit Well With Fans
Batman Begins star Liam Neeson is one of the many celebrities who spoke in support of Kevin Spacey to The Telegraph UK. Neeson’s choice of words for Spacey has irked some fans who bashed the actor for supporting a canceled actor. While the House of Cards star was acquitted of all charges, many fans still refused to believe that the actor was innocent.
Channel 4’s new documentary has allegedly come out with further allegations against the actor. On this occasion, many actors condemned the documentary and called for stopping the “witch hunt” against the actor. Neeson called Spacey a “man of character” and added that he was a “sensitive, articulate, and non-judgemental” person. He also talked about his acting career, calling him “one of the finest artists on camera.” Neeson shared with The Telegraph:
I was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against him. Kevin is a good man and a man of character. He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humour. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly.
Fans on X commented that Spacey might be a good actor like Neeson said, but they were certain that he was not a good man. Another fan was disappointed that the remarks came from a reputed actor like Neeson. One fan shared that it was hard to ignore all the stuff that’s being accused against Spacey. Many other fans also expressed their disappointment with the Schindler’s List actor to side with Spacey. Some of the fan reactions read:
Kevin spacey is a good actor, but he is absolutely not a good man

I get that Kevin Spacey is talented, but it's hard to ignore the stuff he's been accused of.

Liam Neeson can foot the bill for Kevin Spacey's return to the stage if he wants to. But I doubt many mainstream people in the filmmaking business want to associate their own names with Kevin.

Other celebrities who vouched for The Usual Suspects actor include Amadeus actor F. Murray Abraham, English actor Stephen Fry, former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company Sir Trevor Nunn, and Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone.
Sharon Stone Went After The Accusers Of Kevin Spacey In Her Remarks
Sharon Stone was one of the most prominent actresses of the ’90s and she has made certain comments in recent times that have stirred controversy. In her most controversial remarks yet, she sided with Spacey and shared that she couldn’t wait to see Spacey back at work. She called him a genius and went on to bash his accusers for trying to blame him after using him. Stone shared with The Telegraph:
I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will. It’s terrible that they are blaming him for not being able to come to terms with themselves for using him and negotiating with themselves because they didn’t get their secret agendas.
Stone’s comments also made some of her fans angry. Stone’s controversial statements may face some repercussions from Hollywood. F. Murray Abraham called Channel 4 “vultures” for their documentary, while Stephen Fry shared that it was wrong to batter Spacey’s reputation merely based on assertion and rhetoric rather than evidence and proof.
Channel 4 stood by their documentary, Spacey Unmasked, which was aired last week.
