Mrs. Lillie Mae DeWitt Byrd, 88, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, May 10, 2024, at Oakbrook Healthcare in Summerville. She was the wife of the late Samuel Eugene Byrd, to whom she was married 47 years at the time of his death in 2002. Born February 11, 1936, in Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Clint DeWitt and Myrtie Benton DeWitt. She was a retired lunchroom worker from Colleton Middle School, Campus B. Mrs. Lillie was always dedicated to her job and loved the children she got to see everyday. Before working at the middle school, she worked in a sewing room for 26 years. She was a member of Northside Christian Church. She loved baking, working with her flowers, sewing and making crafts. Most of all, Mrs. Lillie loved her Lord, her family, and loved helping anyone she could. Surviving are: her children, Charles Eugene Byrd and his wife Terry of Walterboro, and Karen Denise Byrd and her husband Larry of Ladson; grandchildren, Christy Watkins and her husband Phil of Greer, Sarah “Sammie” Wessel and her husband Hunter of Arizona, and Rebekah Sylvester of Ladson; and great grandchildren, Xander Watkins, Zack Watkins, Zane Watkins, Rylan Byrd, and Lily Sineath. She was preceded in death by an infant child; and her siblings, Hearl DeWitt, Hubert DeWitt, J.W. DeWitt, Mearl DeWitt, Pearl DeWitt, and Nellie Hudson. Funeral services will be held 4 o’clock, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Northside Christian Church, 200 Northside Drive, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. The church will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 3 pm until the hour of service in the church sanctuary. Arrangements By: The Brice W.
