BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Ten high school seniors were awarded $2,000 scholarships from the Brownsville Public Utilities Board.
BPUB funded these scholarships through its Project SHARE program. The funds are awarded to graduates for their upcoming studies at accredited higher education institutions this fall.
“Congratulations and best wishes to all our recipients,” said BPUB General Manager & CEO Marilyn D. Gilbert. “We hope these scholarships inspire them to become the future leaders of Brownsville.”
Students qualified for the scholarship by submitting an application detailing their academic and extracurricular achievements along with a 500-word essay. All recipients were required to reside in a household that received BPUB’s electric, water or wastewater services.
This year’s scholarship recipients are as follows:
- Rebecca Loera from Los Fresnos High School. Loera plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin.
- Diya Aneesh from IDEA Frontier College Preparatory. Aneesh plans to attend Northeastern University.
- Brianna Barajas from Veterans Memorial Early College High School. Barajas plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin.
- Larissa Araiza from Hanna Early College High School. Araiza plans to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
- Mia Navar Calderon from Hanna Early College High School. Calderon plans to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
- Chloe Mares from Pace Early College High School. Mares plans to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
- America A. Rangel from Rivera Early College High School. Rangel plans to attend Texas A&M University.
- Kendra Rivera from Veterans Memorial Early College High School. Rivera plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin.
- Abigail N. Rodriguez from Rivera Early College High School.
- Sandra Marie Salazar from Porter Early College High School. Salazar plans to attend Texas A&M University – San Antonio.
