The Criterion Collection is a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films on home video.
just picked up my Criterion grail!!!
Been meaning to buy this laserdisc for ages just for the novelty of it because I love Se7en so much and I of course love Criterion. My wife and I found a seller on eBay who was selling the laserdisc for $20 instead of $40-$50 like everyone else was so we finally went ahead and got it!!! Se7en Blu-ray for size reference LOL
DE-TEC-TIVE!!!
Down. Down. DOWN. All the way! ALL THE WAY! FASTER fucker! Faster! Faster! Goddamn!!
Iconic scene, second only to the “other” scene haha
I didn’t know this existed
There’s a good chunk of films Criterion has never upgraded (licensing issues mostly) from the laserdisc era; Se7en is one of them. It’s a rabbit hole for sure if you had no idea about the laserdisc collection before!
During Covid I went on a mission to obtain all the Criterion LDs that didn't have a Criterion digital release.
Wouldn't you know it that a bunch of them got Blu-Rays since then. Arsenic and Old Lace, Citizen Kane, I Am Cuba, Sweet Sweetback, Menace II Society, Raging Bull, Trainspotting, and Pink Flamingos. Maybe more. I might as well have just set fire to a bunch of cash, because I don't think those LDs have content not on the digital releases. :(
I mean depending on the price you bought them at they’d also serve as great collectors pieces/wall art. You ever thought to buy vinyl wall hooks and use them for the laserdiscs? That’s what I plan on doing for some of the next few I’m planning on getting.
Idk why but my first thought seeing this was, “They made a Se7en PlayStation?” Cuz I am a dumb
Gun to my head if I had to name a movie that is prefect from first frame to last, I’m saying Se7en
No country for old men
The Big Lebowski
Memories of Murder
The 4K that I pre-ordered a half year ago should be here soon. And by “soon” I mean like in another year.
Oh trust me, I’ve been waiting for it to come out too. I didn’t preorder though just out of fear, because Fincher has zero track record with 4K UHDs.
Only have one Laserdisc from anything and that’s Anri’s concert from 1984, just after she released Timely!!! Had no idea criterion were even around for that era
I love seeing old Laserdisc Criterion releases, it so cool to see stuff from another era of movie collecting.
I still need to try and get my laserdisc player to work. I got really frustrated and put it away for a couple weeks. I would love to have it working.
I hear you. Honestly, unless you’re doing it for the novelty of watching the film in the format, there’s really no advantages in quality; don’t beat yourself up over it. There are some very rare instances where the laserdisc’s audio track is better than even a 4K UHD, but like I said, it’s very rare for that to be the case.
Oo awesome. What's in the box?
Haha, referencing the scene from Se7en or actually asking about the contents inside?
Lol both.:)
The set comes with four laserdiscs and some very cool insights into the behind the scenes process. Here’s a full overview of the set!!
That's awesome.
(Though, it's strange to me that $40 is thought to be high as I remember forking over $125 for it in 1995 (which means its relative current cost was over $250.)
Oh yeah I’m very aware of the original prices for these, all crazy! It’s all relative to the niche now though, as I don’t think many (if any) people are buying the laserdiscs in favor of a quality upgrade as much as it’s just to collect them. They’re “expensive” in that sense, but I’m still very thankful to not have to fork over $250 for sure LOL
What's crazy to me is that I remember happily paying $100 bucks for LDs at a time in my life & lack of career should have made that unthinkable.
Only regret is giving them all away. : )
All I can think of when I see Se7en is:
F***in' Dante. Poetry-writing f*ggot! Piece of sh*t, motherf***er!
Awesome! Such a great film.
