FOX has canceled the animated series Housebroken, bringing the show to an end after its second season. The series, which concluded its 18-episode second season in August 2023, focused on the lives of neighborhood pets and stray animals as they navigated their issues inside and outside their therapy group.
Starring a talented voice cast, including Lisa Kudrow as Honey, a standard poodle who opens her living room as a space for the therapy group to gather, the show also featured Will Forte, Clea DuVall, Nat Faxon as Chief, a sloppy St. Bernard, Sharon Horgan, Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, and Jason Mantzoukas, with guest appearances by Bresha Webb, Greta Lee, and Maria Bamford.
Airing on Sunday nights, Housebroken’s second season averaged a 0.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic and attracted an average of 491,000 viewers. These numbers marked a significant decrease from the show’s first season, with a drop of 54% in the demographic rating and a 46% loss in viewership in the live+same-day ratings, which include DVR playback through 3:00 AM.
Housebroken concluded its run as FOX’s lowest-rated scripted series for the 2022-23 season. While the network has opted not to continue with the show, FOX will be bringing back other animated series for the 2024-25 TV season, including long-running favorites Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, and The Simpsons, as well as the more recent Krapopolis.
The fate of The Great North, another animated series on the network, remains uncertain at this time, with no official announcement about its renewal or cancellation.
