CUHSD-SDSU-IV MOU to Provide Academic Pathways for Students

EL CENTRO — Central Union High School District students now have a clear pathway to attend San Diego State University-Imperial Valley thanks to a memorandum of understanding recently signed between both institutions, according to a joint press release issued on Friday, May 3.

The Pathway for Success memorandum guarantees admission for CUHSD graduating classes of 2025-2030 to SDSU-Imperial Valley. Through this MOU, SDSU-Imperial Valley will develop and implement an active recruitment plan to engage and support CUHSD students in their transition to higher education. CUHSD will provide enhanced academic support, including proactive college counseling, to help ensure that students meet the guaranteed admission benchmarks set by the California State University system, of which SDSU Imperial Valley is a part. This partnership is designed to provide students with the essential tools and guidance needed to excel academically and effectively pursue their educational goals, the release states.

“We are thrilled to join forces with San Diego State University-Imperial Valley to provide our students with the opportunity to further their education without having to leave Imperial Valley. This MOU reinforces our commitment to empowering our students and preparing them for success in higher education and beyond,” Central Union High School District Superintendent Dr. David Farkas stated in the press release.

“When we, as a local higher education institution, unite together to facilitate the transition for high school students to enter into university, we open doors for our youth to launch a successful career locally. This will not only address the workforce needs of Imperial Valley, but it will also support the next generation of researchers, leaders and professionals to pursue their higher ambitions and dreams,” said Dr. Gina Nuñez-Mchiri, SDSU-Imperial Valley dean.

By working together, CUHSD and SDSU-Imperial Valley aim to cultivate a culture of academic achievement and student support that will benefit not only the entities involved, but also the students who will benefit from this guaranteed Pathway to Success, according to the joint statement.
