A forgettable IPL 2024 campaign for David Warner

The 2016 IPL-winning skipper did not have a memorable outing with the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing edition of the league. The flamboyant southpaw had to miss a few matches for his side due to a finger injury he sustained mid-season. Overall, in the eight matches that he played in the IPL 2024, David Warner managed 168 runs at a strike rate of 134.40.

Last season though, he was in top form for the Capitals, amassing 516 runs, including six half-centuries. The immensely successful Australian batter is the fourth-highest run-getter in the history of IPL with 6565 runs to his name in 184 matches.

Meanwhile, despite having a great opportunity, Rishabh Pant's men failed to make it to the playoffs, having finished their campaign with 14 points from as many matches with a net run rate of -0.377. A 47-run defeat in a must-win fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium reversed their fortunes, thereby making the playoff qualification difficult for them.

The Delhi Capitals finished the season on a winning note by overcoming the KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a margin of 19 runs in their last league game of the season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
