Santa Anita is at the center of the holiday weekend stakes action, with Mr. Fisk and Reincarnate expected to start for Bob Baffert in the Grade 1 Hollywood Gold Cup

Carson’s Run’s fifth-place finish in the black-type Woodhaven at Aqueduct was his only start since he finished ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Triple Espresso broke his maiden in January in his fourth try then was fourth in both the listed Colonel Liam Satkes and the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3). Royal Majesty has two wins, both at a mile, and two fifth-place finishes, both at 1 1/16 miles.

Johnny Podres took over in the deep stretch for a half-length victory and has won three in a row. Sharp Aza Tack, seventh in the Malibu (G1) in December, returns to graded company after two optional-claiming allowance wins this year.

Reincarnate has gone 1-for-5 since finishing 13th in last year’s Kentucky Derby. Stablemate Mr. Fisk has won three of his last four starts, including a 2 1/4-length win last out in the Californian (G2) over Judge Miller, also expected here. In his first start since 2022, Express Train finished third in the listed Kona Gold on April 27.
2024 Hollywood Gold Cup G1
Gamely (G1), Santa Anita, 1 1/8 miles (turf), fillies and mare, 3-year-olds and up
Justique, looking for her first win since 2022, finished in the money in three of her last four starts, including a second last out in the Royal Heroine (G3). Linda’s Gift is on a three-race win streak, most recently scoring as the favorite in the Santa Ana (G3). Anisette, who compiled a 6: 4-2-0 record last year, returns. Her wins last year included the American Oaks (G1) and the Del Mar Oaks (G1).
2024 Gamely Stakes G1
Shoemaker Mile (G1), Santa Anita, 1 mile (turf), 3-year-olds and up
Johannes’s win in the American Stakes (G3) was his first start since finishing fifth in the American Turf (G2) on last year’s Kentucky Derby undercard. Du Jour won the Frank E. Kilroe Mile (G1) in his first start since finishing 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Easter was second in the Kilroe, breaking a three-race win streak. Exalted would make his first start since a second-place finish behind Du Jour in the Del Mar Mile (G2) in September.

Wonder Again (G2), Aqueduct, 1 1/8 miles (turf), 3-year-old fillies
Dynamic Pricing won her December debut then had two losses before rallying to win the Edgewood (G2) on Kentucky Oaks day. Style Points, runner-up in two stakes starts this year, returns to graded company after winning a Keeneland allowance by a nose. Vive Veuve broke her maiden in her second U.S. start in February then won the listed Sanibel Island Stakes at Gulfstream in March.
