Butterfinger Celebrates Turning 100 with a Fan-Favorite Throwback

We still say this!

Butterfinger has Ben around for so long it may be impossible to find an adult who has never heard of them. The candy company is known for its crispy goodness and for its iconic advertising stunts.

In fact, to get attention when it first launched, the owner of Butterfinger chartered planes and dropped the candy bars, with little parachutes attached to them, from the sky all across the country. That was a boss move and it worked to cement the Butterfinger as one of the coolest candy bars on the market.

Now, the “crispety, crunchety” candy bar that features a peanut butter center covered in chocolate is turning 100, and it’s celebrating with a marketing campaign that isn't as big as its first, but it's one that will bring back memories for a lot of the candy's fans.

Bart is Back, Baby

Butterfinger is teaming up with “The Simpsons” again to bring back a memorable marketing phrase. Yes, that one.

The first commercial that used the phrase featured Bart Simpson saying “Nobody better lay a finger on my Butterfinger.” The catchphrase became an instant hit and it's one of the most remembered lines in commercial history.

Butterfinger still collaborates with “The Simpsons” for some of its ads, and for its 100th anniversary, it’s teaming up with the animated TV show to get consumers’ attention.

To celebrate, regular-size Butterfinger bars, the 2-piece share pack, and "fun size" bags will feature festive birthday wrappers with some of the Simpsons characters. The regular bars feature Bart Simpson, Homer is on the share-pack, and the whole Simpsons family is on the fun-size bags.

These new bags will start showing up on store shelves in May. You may not hear Bart say his popular catchphrase, but just seeing his face will have us all thinking it every time we reach for a Butterfinger.

Companies are Cashing in on Nostalgia

Burger King is also celebrating a big birthday this year. The burger company is turning 70, and they have birthday cake pie and deals all week leading up to their actual birthday, June 1.

But they aren't the only ones using gimmicks to get customers to buy, buy, buy. Many companies are cashing in on childhood nostalgia, like the many that are putting out Bomb-Pop flavored drinks, and the fast food joints (like Wendy's) that are offering orange dreamsicle treats that remind us of being a kid on a hot summer day.

This is going to be a summer full of fun and memories, and there will be a lot of great food to celebrate with!
