Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins had fans floored that she was closer to a milestone than people believed.

She told Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder, who fronted the Friday morning edition of the show that she enjoyed a day off on Thursday to celebrate her birthday. She said it was a "really special day" and joked she'd be "having a word" with weather presenter Laura Tobin about the on-and-off rain.

When asked about her age by Kate, Charlotte said: "I've got a significant birthday coming up next year - let's put it that way." The mum-of-one shared that she's set to mark her 50th birthday next year after Kate guessed she was just shy of turning 40 and Laura joked she was approaching her 60th.

Kate said: "It's ridiculous that she's nearly 50, look at her!" Fans of Good Morning Britain took to social media to express their equal shock about the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant's true age.

One said: "Happy Birthday, Charlotte! No way are you almost at that milestone, you look fantastic!"

Another could only find two words to describe their feelings. They commented: "50? That's insane!!"

Charlotte documented her celebrations on Instagram with a set of snaps with one featuring her young daughter. Captioning the post, she wrote: "Thanks for the birthday wishes! Such a lovely day, and the best hug at the end of it.

"Started off with banana French toast for breakfast, then big thanks to the @corinthialondon for the most amazing spa day. After a Swedish massage, a dip in the pools then a chill on a heated lounger it was time for lunch!

"Sadly not the best weather, they had to use the ice bucket to catch the rain! but super special none the less. Off to bed now as it’s @gmb tomorrow morning!"

Charlotte has worked as a newsreader on the flagship ITV morning news programme since 2014 and covers as a main presenter during holidays and absence. She started her broadcasting career with ITN in 1999 and has since worked with Sky News and Channel 5.
