Brie Larson Video Interview: 'Lessons In Chemistry,' MCU & More: The Actor's Side

Brie Larson has been deep into the actor’s side of things her entire life, starting in a Tonight Show sketch as Barbie opposite Jay Leno and becoming the youngest member ever of the famous American Conservatory Theatre at age 6. From there it has been nonstop. There were TV series like United States of Tara opposite Toni Collette for producer Steven Spielberg and Raising Dad with the late Bob Saget.

Of course it didn’t take long for movie stardom, with a memorable role in the 2013 indie hit Short Term 12 as well as Trainwreck with Amy Schumer and such blockbusters as Kong Skull Island, Fast X and Captain Marvel, even as a director for The Unicorn Store. And there was that Best Actress Oscar-winning role in the devastating drama Room, and so much more. She even has been revisiting a favorite part of Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World with an animated series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

But it is her current role as Elizabeth Zott in the Apple TV+ limited series adaptation of the best-selling novel Lessons in Chemistry that has been winning her high praise yet again and lots of awards nominations (SAG, Golden Globes, Critics Choice) and Emmy buzz for the series, on which she also is an executive producer. Playing a chemist in the 1950s- set story was a challenge in and of itself, not to mention the pressure of taking on an iconic bestseller and doing it justice for all those millions of readers. Stories of love — good ones — are hard to find, she tells me, and this one was a particular challenge in that she had to keep her own emotions in check for the role.

We talk about all of it — her ever-successful career and also why she loves doing those Nissan commercials that have brought her a whole new audience.
