For those set on entering university soon, wanting to switch their current degree or looking to return to school, selecting which program to apply for can often leave many stumped.

Luckily, a new report from the University of the Potomac dropped, citing the most popular degrees in each country — allowing you to better grasp the Canadian education and employment landscape.

The University of the Potomac examined Google search trends globally to identify the most popular fields of study across 100 countries. They ranked the top degrees searched for in each country by analyzing average search volumes over a year.

According to the data gathered on the most searched degrees worldwide, nursing is the most popular choice, followed by a business administration degree and a law degree.

"These three programs likely attract a large number of students due to their practical and in-demand nature, as well as the diverse career opportunities they can provide," the University of the Potomac said.

But what about Canada?

According to the report, the most popular degree in Canada is psychology, while computer sciences and business degrees were the second and third most popular in Canada.

While business and computer sciences don't come as too much of a shock, especially with Montreal being home to the John Molson School of Business, the popularity of psychology degrees may come as a surprise. Nevertheless, a psychology degree can provide a solid start to career paths such as a psychologist, social worker, human resources specialist, and more.

So, how much do these top degrees in Canada pay? According to the Government of Canada, psychologists in Canada can earn anywhere from $24 to $63 per hour or roughly $47,000 to $120,000 annually.

As for business degrees, many jobs in Canada will pay anywhere from $65,000 to $200,000 annually, depending on the position. Computer science degrees pay the most of the three, with an average annual salary of $80,000.
