Old Grummann - G-17 Aluminum Canoe - Value? Help!

Hi! My Father In Law recently passed and we are cleaning his estate. For the life of me, I cannot find much research or posts to go off of regarding what this is valued at today. Does anyone have any experience buying or selling? Thank you!

Plenty of sub $500 aluminum canoes are laying around.

I agree. Im not sure where these other commenters live but i can pick up a alumicraft quetico 17cl which is waaaaayyy lighter than that grummen for 3-400 basically any day of the week. I see old g17s listed for 150-300. A very clean one might be worth more to the right buyer but idk who that person would be, most people in my area would probably save for a kevlar boat if they were already having to spend 7-800 on a grummen

I recently bought one for $300. I feel like I got a good but not inappropriate deal. It came with two old paddles and a canvas seat that straps over the aluminum seat.

I'm getting ready to list my parents' old 17' aluminum canoe (Sea Nymph, not Grumman FWIW), and based on what I've seen, I think ~$250 is where I'll start the price. Wouldn't be surprised if I get a little under $200 in the end. I'm in Michigan, and as others have said, these old 17 footers are pretty ubiquitous and not exactly the most coveted style of canoe these days (great boats, just not as appealing to most).

It varies wildly. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a G17 unless it was in mint condition - actual mint, not all kinds of dents and dings with "lots of life left in her!" as some people think it means. Used aluminum canoes are a dime a dozen (at least here in WI) but occasionally you see some jackass trying to get $800 because they're "x amount" brand new.

Hello to all! Would you recommend trying to get someone to fix it? Doesn’t seem like where i live it’s going to have someone fix it. Has anyone gotten a metal canoe fixed? Did any that you sold or purchased have leaks in them?

Sorry for your loss. $500 if she is in ok shape. If she is mint with all the accessories $800. If it’s a flat back canoe they seem to be worth more. Depending where you are. These canoes can sell for close to $2800 new.

Highly area dependent. Also seasonal demand. Buy from October through Christmas and sell when tax returns come in or in June.

I just purchased a mint flat back cargo for $700, but it’s a two hour drive out of the city, and not quite prime time to sell.
