Was it the fee increases that forced sellers to raise their own prices?
Was it the poor vetting that allowed scam account after scam account to ruin buyers trust?
Was it the constant messing with the Artist page and discography to make people feel like they had a dial up modem?
Was it the sellers who promised what they didn't have/not adjust inventory?
Or, has Taylor Swift become the Nirvana in every Behind the Music episode about a hair metal band?

The unholy trifecta of Paypal only, local taxes + the monumental increase in fees has been the Deathknell for many of my regular buyers here

north-bay-records you need to remove this:

"We are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen orders. If you would like your order insured, please inquire before paying your invoice."

    and most of this:

"All authorized returns due to customer error (wrong mix purchased/changed mind) must be in the same condition as sent and return postage cost is the responsibility of the buyer. For these types of returns, postage (to and from) PayPal and Discogs partnering fees are non-refundable, and a 20% restocking fee will apply. Items sold sealed are not returnable if opened. We do not issue partial refunds. On order cancellations before shipment, we do not refund PayPal and Discogs partnering fees, as they are not refunded to us. We DO NOT engage in grading disputes. We grade the items, so save your "in my eyes it's a...". Your eyes are not grading the item. As we are the seller, we trust our grading practices."

From your seller terms. These terms are not only against Discogs/Paypal ToS but largely unenforceable.

If you refuse to refund for a lost parcel, the buyer will open a paypal not received case and win. If you withhold fees, the buyer will open a paypal not received case and win. If you do not return all the monies upon cancelation, the buyer will open a paypal not received case and win

If you do not agree with a buyer's complaint about mis-grading, they will open a paypal case and win. Providing they return it of course.

Sorry but you don't get to just keep people's money without providing the service expected. Maybe your sales are full because buyers are choosing to shop with sellers who don't state they will do such things.

But the partial refund bit is OK. You can keep that.

disc-empyre - you've got a seller neg from May 1, did the buyer get in touch first, if not apply to get it removed. I ask because you haven't replied to it which suggests you haven't noticed it's there.

You can probably get that neg from Apr 24, 2022 removed as well if you offered a solution but didn't get a reply. Maybe that one from May 14, 2021 too depending on circumstances. That neutral complaining after non-receipt after 2 days can defo go. As can a few others.

You're stuck with the ones for not having the item though. Top tip: in circumstances like that instead of saying you haven't got it, tell the buyer that you've pulled the item out to pack and it's damaged. They'll be less pissy about it and indeed feel like you've done them a favour.

Thanks Jay, not sure what that has to do with the topic at hand though.

But yes, that first one is pending, buyer never contacted me - and it turned out it was his drive that was faulty, I told him to test it on another player and it was just fine. It takes weeks for those requests to be handled.

The other 2 were denied, although they should have been removed under the rules. It's always hit & miss with these things...

Ah yes, lie to the buyer. Particularly when the mistake is yours alone. That's a super good top tip, and fully restores my waning faith in this marketplace.

JFC, how do these threads keep descending into this type of crud?? I'm torn between staying away, and letting all the big decks continue to measure up against each other, or instead choosing not to let them drag down the experience for everyone else and keep contributing. It's really tiring..

How would the buyer know they are lying? And why should a seller expose themselves to greater risk of non-positive feedback? There's no victim here.

Oh it's not a discogs thing. I do it everywhere I sell when it's neccessary. Buyer's don't care so long as you let them know quickly that the item is unavailable.

Oh aye, because the OP's post was a piece of art until other people started ruining it.

I mean I gave up when the OP talked of "poor vetting" of users causing scam accounts. New accounts aren't vetted. Are any of you "vetted" when you join a website for the first time? And discogs has a bunch more checks than most sites do - that's why the scammers have moved from fake sellers to fake orders and crappy phishing. Both methods that are being squashed by Discogs pretty quickly

My ticket created yesterday on support page :

    "Hello
I am almost completing 10 years since I registered as a user/contributor to the Database and I started selling in August 4 years ago.
For all i've done, for my ratings as a seller 99.4% (with only one review revision request) don't you think I am entitled to a second chance?

I got a red card without being shown a yellow (we portuguese are great soccer fans). It feels like I committed a mortal sin or caused prejudice.
I have two claims on PayPal against me and in both cases I have tracking codes so we will see if PayPal aligns with the buyers or not.
I still have an order to ship that i will take care until wednesday.
If until then I don't have a reply from you, you will never read from me again.
If you continue to not allow me to sell here, and after I get the final decision of the two cases, I will withdraw all my money and close my PayPal account.
Again, from what I did all these years, don't you think you are being too radical closing my selling activity with a 99,40% rating from buyers?

Waiting for a non-robotic reply, unless I am really worthless and a problem to the site.
I am a proud amateur (hobby seller) and I sell mint material at affordable prices while some sellers sell second hand junk at higher prices. To be honest, this seems like you are protecting a certain seller lobby based in the UK.

    Best

    António Magina"

Ticket is now set as SOLVED.

It was a while ago, but for me (small hobby seller) it was the shipping policies update which initially stopped me from selling. I know that was (apparently) not Discogs' fault.

Might have gotten back into it, but there were 2 more things at the time that I still take issue with.
-Going deep into bed with PayPal by making it required. Even though 98+% of my payments were already via paypal, I took big issue with it. It is not my pal, the company is a leeching platform.
-The news that sellers (especially big ones) got negative feedback removed on a reasonably big scale without due care.
In short, Discogs went more platform economy and I don't like it. Still considering selling again, but I think I won't.

There are probably more reasons in the general picture; economy, inflating shipping prices, Brexit, the rise of vinyl.
