With victory today, Bayer Leverkusen can eclipse the iconic Benfica team that went undefeated from 1963 to 1965 across a 427-day spell.
Both teams are on the 48-game mark, and a 49th today would make Leverkusen the team with the longest unbeaten run since the advent of European competition, according to UEFA.
It would take them one step closer to a remarkable treble after they wrapped up the Bundesliga title, with the German Cup final to come.

ALONSO: WE DON'T WANT TO STOP
Ahead of the action in Germany, Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso spoke to TNT Sports and remained focussed on the task at hand.
"We all want more, for sure, the crowd will push us to go [to the final] in Dublin," he told Matt Smith pitchside. "So far it's been great but we don't want to stop, we want to continue.
