Local High School Sports Recaps For Monday, May 20

Softball Sectionals
Manchester vs. Whitko

Whitko was able to pull out a win and advance to the semifinals of ISHAA 2A Sectional 36 at South Adams Monday night, defeating Manchester 9-8. The Lady ‘Cats are now 7-15 this season, while the Lady Squires end the campaign with a 12-11 record.
Cassidy Skinner had a huge day for Whitko, going 2-4 with a double and three RBIs, while also striking out eleven on the mound and giving up four earned runs. Hope Bradley had two hits and drove in two runs, while Addison Patrick had two hits and a run scored. Kaylee Adkins also added an RBI. Ava Sautter drove in three runs for Manchester while also scoring two. Hadley West had two hits and an RBI. Samantha Shock also had an RBI. Molly Schannep had two strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Manchester will return next season, while Whitko will take on Fort Wayne Bishop Luers in the sectional semifinal Wednesday night.
Boys Golf
Warsaw/Wawasee at Bob Turner Classic

The Warsaw boys golf team shot their lowest score of the season for a second straight meet in winning the Bob Turner Classic at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club Monday night.
Warsaw posted a team score of 297 to win the 12-team event, with both Breckin Christner and Robbie Finlinson each shooting 1-under par 71.
That comes just two days after the Tigers shot 311 for their season low at the Northern Lakes Conference tournament in Middlebury.
Wawasee finished the tournament in third place, with Maddux Everingham (76), Preston Scherer (79), Myles Everingham (81) and Weston DeLong (81) each shooting a personal best.
NLC All-Academic Teams
The Northern Lakes Conference All-Academic Teams were announced this week, with 20 local athletes being honored.
For Warsaw, Patrick Stump, Caleb Smith, Abygail Herman, Molly Kissling, Leah Henderson, Addison Mehlberg, Elizabeth Vander Bie, Claire Sprankle, Sophia Johnston and Claire Reichenbach were all honored.
Wawasee’s 10 athletes honored were Senate Shaw, Allison Clark, Lucas Linder, Sara Timmins, Brooklynn Gibson, Nathan Harper, Chloe Linder, Haylee Allen, Ty Brooks and Summit Shaw.
Congratulations to these local athletes for setting high standards in the classroom!

Habitat For Humanity Breaks Ground In Mentone For Home For Family Of Six
MENTONE - Fifteen years ago, the town of Mentone had its last Habitat for Humanity home built. About five years ago, Tim and Jackie Croy purchased three lots on North Franklin Street and then decided to donate the property to Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County. Thursday evening, Habitat for Humanity, the Croys and business sponsors broke ground at 405 N. Franklin St. for what will become the first home for Kimber Boyd, her four daughters and her mother.
