Kala has deep ties to her Hawaiian roots. Her ancestors navigated (航行) the oceans for centuries using their knowledge of the stars, the sun, the currents and the wind. It’s not that she does it in a canoe without technology, but rather uses the natural technology around her. It’s called Way finding, and was taught to her by her father.
“My father was my foundation, my rock.” she says of her first voyage with him from Oahu to Lahaina in a traditional canoe. He taught her how to read the stars, the ocean swells and how to use them to hold the course. “Over 200 stars have specific names and purposes when you are Way finding. You have to look at each and determine if they are rising or setting. You know this star and the direction it represents. If you can do that, you can use it as a tool to orient (确定方向).” Kala added.
Kala Tanaka sailed the canoe in the ocean for up to three weeks. During the day, Kala used the sun until it hit a certain height. When she got closer to land, she looked for certain species of land birds and clouds that indicated there was land below. When Kala sailed she felt “I feel very connected to the crew and the canoe. We’re a family.” The longer voyage required Kala to spend hours studying the day and the night skies. It was demanding physical work. But it also had its moments of awe. For Kala, the beauty was in tying together the past and the present to enjoy the moment. So when she was not sailing, she was teaching Way finding skills to school-aged children in hopes of preserving the skills her ancestors relied on.
It’s easy to be lost in the immediacy of the technology of our day, to be consumed by screens and miss the nature that unfolds around us. But if we will take the time to look up, to see the stars and the sun, the way the clouds move, the miracle of life beneath and above us, we will discover something deep inside us, something that will always lead to happiness.
4. How does Kala navigate the ocean in a canoe
A. By observing the natural elements around.
B. By following the course of ocean currents.

Ecotourism has become increasingly popular in recent years.Travelers visit natural environments funding conservation efforts or promoting local economies. In many cases, ecotourism involves close interaction with wildlife.
Now, scientists have analyzed more than 100 research studies on how ecotourism affects wild animals. They find the presence of humans changes the way animals behave, and those changes may put them at risk. Therefore, they have concluded that such trips can be harmful to the animals.
When animals interact in seemingly kind ways with humans, they may let down their guard. As animals learn to relax in the presence of humans, they may become bolder in other situations. If this transfers to their interactions with predators (捕食者), they are more likely to be injured or killed.
The presence of humans can also discourage natural predators. It creates a kind of safe place for smaller animals that may make them bolder. For example, in Grand Teton National Park, elk and pronghorns in areas with more tourists are less watchful and spend more time eating.
Interacting with people can cause great changes in the characteristics of various species over time.“If animals become accustomed to tourists, we might create unintended consequences — affecting the behavior or population of a species and influencing the species’ function in its community,” the researchers write.
Ecotourism has effects similar to those of animal domestication (驯养) and urbanization.Research has shown that domesticated silver foxes become more obedient and less fearful.Fox squirrels and birds that live in urbanized areas are slower to flee from danger. The phenomena result from evolutionary changes, but also from regular interactions with humans.
Scientists hope the new analysis will encourage more research into the interactions between people and wildlife. It is essential to develop further understanding of how various species in various situations respond to human interaction and under what conditions human exposure may place them at risk.
8. We can learn from the passage that ___________.
A. ecotourism causes damage to the natural homes of wildlife

D. wildlife interactions with humans strengthen their function in community
9. What does the underlined word “bolder” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. shyer B. braver C. wiser D. swifter
10. The author mentions pronghorns in paragraph 4 as an example to show that ________.
A. wild animals become more relaxed due to evolution
B. animals’ reactions to humans vary from species to species
C. smaller animals tend to be in harmony with natural predators
D. the presence of humans reduces their awareness of potential danger
11. What might be the best title for the text

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a fashion word in recent years, and its impact on society is growing rapidly. AI refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. This technology is transforming every industry, from healthcare to finance, and is expected to revolutionize the future.
One area where AI is making significant strides is healthcare. AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of medical data and help doctors make more informed diagnoses and treatment decisions. This technology is particularly useful in fields such as radiology where AI algorithms can analyze medical images to detect abnormalities that may be missed by human eyes.
In finance, AI is being used to analyze vast amounts of data to identify patterns and predict market trends. This technology can help traders make more informed decisions and reduce the risks of financial losses. Similarly, AI -powered chatbots are being used in customer service, helping to improve response times and provide personalized support.
As the use of AI grows, concerns about job displacement have also arisen. Some fear that AI-powered machines and robots will replace human workers, leading to mass unemployment. While this is a possibility, it is also important to note that AI will create new jobs in fields such as data analysis, software development, and robotics.
Another major concern about Al is the potential for bias and discrimination. AI algorithms are only as good as the data they are trained on, and if that data contains biases, the algorithms will also be biased. This issue is particularly concerning in fields such as criminal justice, where AI-powered systems are being used to make decisions about sentencing. If these algorithms are biased, they could make existing inequalities continue in the criminal justice system.
Despite these concerns, the benefits of AI are numerous and undeniable. However, to ensure that these benefits are accessible to all and to address concerns about bias and discrimination, it is crucial to continue researching and developing moral AI.
12. Al outweighs humans in healthcare in that it .
A. stops financial risks. B. ensures precise judgement.
C. recognizes market tendency. D. offers personalized services.
13. What is one of the major concerns of AI
A. New jobs will be unavailable. B. Algorithms will be out of date.
C. Unfairness may arise in criminal justice system. D. A large number of human workers will be laid off.
14. How does the writer mainly develop this text
A. By stating facts and citing quotes.
B. By showing different ideas and giving reasons.
C. By presenting influences and listing examples.
D. By comparing research results and offering suggestions.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Artificial Intelligence: Becoming a Fashion Word
B. Artificial Intelligence: Revolutionizing the Future
C. Artificial Intelligence: Bettering Decision Making
D. Artificial Intelligence: Improving Human Abilities

Torrie Norwood was a girl student at Lakewood High School, which offered a life-saving course. Torrie was very interested and she was registered at the class. Instructor Erika Miller was a long-time and skilled teacher, who taught basic life support, CPR (心肺复苏), along with Heartsaver First Aid. Erika stressed that life-saving skills were very important. To save a person’s life, you must perform CPR within 4-6 minutes. “You never know when an emergency will occur,” Erika said. “But you know what you should do at a crucial moment.” When Torrie finished the course last Friday, she was glad to earn her certification.
The next day Torrie and her three classmates had just spent a typical Saturday night out when they decided to head home. As they drove back to their hometown of St. Petersburg, Florida, a speeding pickup truck crashed into them. Then the screaming started. “It’s gonna blow!” yelled the gathering crowd as the pickup truck went up in smoke.
Torrie’s door wouldn’t open, but her window had been knocked out during the crash, so she was forced to climb through her window to get out. Two of her classmates, both unhurt, were also able to free themselves from the vehicle.
But when Torrie turned around, she didn’t see Simmons running with them. Torrie realized that her friend Simmons was still in the car. Torrie had to run back to the car as fast as she could. She was still in there—unresponsive in the back seat. There was glass and blood everywhere. Things didn’t look good.
Simmons had hit her head on a rear passenger window. The great force resulted in life-threatening injuries. After pulling Simmons out from the car quickly, Torrie gently laid her on the ground and checked her vital signs, unable to detect a pulse (脉搏).

词句猜测题。划线词前文提到“When animals interact in seemingly kind ways with humans, they may let down their guard”,后文提到“If this transfers to their interactions with predators (捕食者), they are more likely to be injured or killed”,当动物以看似友好的方式与人类互动时,它们可能在人类面前会放松警惕,这样导致如果有捕猎者的情况下,动物也会放松警惕,对捕猎者没有惧怕心理,导致他们受伤或死亡。所以在其他情况下,他们可能会变得更加大胆。因此可以猜测,bolder意思为“更大胆的,更不惧怕的”。故选B。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。文章第四段中提到“The presence of humans can also discourage natural predators. It creates a kind of safe place for smaller animals that may make them bolder.(人类的存在也能阻止天敌的入侵。它为较小的动物创造了一种安全的地方,这可能会使它们更加大胆。)” 下文提到在游客很多的地方,叉角羚不那么警惕,而是花更多的时间吃东西。作者举这个例子是为了说明人类的存在使小动物们放松警惕,降低了他们对潜在危险的意识。故选D。
【11题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,文章第二段提出“and those changes may put them at risk…such trips can be harmful to the animals.”与人类的存在会改变动物的行为方式,使他们处于危险中……生态旅游对动物有害;第三段提出“When animals interact in seemingly kind ways with humans, they may let down their guard.”与人类互动会让动物放松警惕;第四段提出“ The presence of humans can also discourage natural predators.”人类的存在能阻止天敌,让动物更加大胆;第五段提出“Interacting with people can cause great changes in the characteristics of various species over time.” 与人互动会导致不同物种的特征发生巨大变化。由此可知,文章是关于生态旅游对野生动物带来的害处。标题应该为“生态旅游会把野生动物置于危险之中”。故选A。

This technology is particularly useful in fields such as radiology, where AI algorithms can analyze medical images to detect abnormalities that may be missed by human eyes.
In finance, AI is being used to analyze vast amounts of data to identify patterns and predict market trends. This technology can help traders make more informed decisions and reduce the risks of financial losses. Similarly, AI -powered chatbots are being used in customer service, helping to improve response times and provide personalized support.
As the use of AI grows concerns about job displacement have also arisen.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意∶
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Para.1
Instead of freezing in fear, Torrie kept calm.

Para.2
A few weeks later, Simmons recovered in the hospital.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Instead of freezing in fear, Torrie kept calm. She remembered the life-saving course she had just completed and the skills she had learned. With a steady hand, she began chest compressions, counting aloud. Her training kicked in, and she was able to perform CPR efficiently, her mind focused on the task at hand. The crowd watched silently, leaving only the sound of her voice and the desperate hope that she could save her friend's life. Torrie’s actions were a testament to her courage and the effectiveness of the training she had received. She continued the CPR as the seconds ticked by, until the sound of sirens in the distance signaled the arrival of emergency services.
A few weeks later, Simmons recovered in the hospital. The doctors had told her that she was extremely fortunate to have survived the accident, and to have a friend like Torrie who knew exactly what to do in such a critical situation. The impact of the crash had been severe, and without Torrie’s immediate response, the outcome could have been tragic. As Simmons lay in her hospital bed, she thought about the events of that fateful night and the life-saving skills that had been so recently taught to her friend. She was grateful not only for Torrie’s quick thinking and bravery but also for the foresight of the school to offer such a vital course. The incident made everyone involved realize the importance of learning life-saving courses positively.
