Billie Eilish's third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, was released today and fans are loving the lyrics

Happy Billie Eilish day to all who celebrate.

Her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, has been released today (17 May) and the glowing reviews are pouring in - as well as some shock at the lyrics.

Hit Me Hard and Soft features 10 songs, none of which have been previously released as singles, so fans have had a lot to sink their teeth into.

A critic wrote for NME that Hit Me Hard and Soft "remains distinctly unique, a portrait of a singular talent entering young adulthood, exploring her queerness and experiencing the emotional thrill and (sometimes) catastrophe of chasing passion or falling in love."

The aforementioned queerness is explored on her track 'Lunch'.

Billie came out in her Variety cover story in November 2023.

She told the outlet: "I love [women] so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

She then continued: "I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”

Billie then followed up her comments, which Variety noted she didn't 'miss a beat' when making, in December that same year.

She said: "I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?' I didn’t realise people didn’t know. I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist’? I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it. Whoops.”

Billie then added: “But I saw the article, and I was like, ‘Oh I guess I came out today.’ OK cool. It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, but it’s cool that they know", before quipping: "I am for the girls."

Clips of Billie performing 'Lunch', a song about lusting for another woman, at Coachella went viral, with people eagerly anticipating the song's release.

Today, fans got their wish and many are shocked but very much enjoying the steamy lyrics.

Billie sings: "I could eat that girl for lunch / Yeah she dances on my tongue / Tastes like she might be the one / And I could never get enough.”

Later in the song, Billie adds: "Baby, I think you were made for me / Somebody write down the recipe / Been tryin' hard not to overeat / You're just so sweet."

Is it hot in here or is it just me?

Last month, Billie told Rolling Stone that 'Lunch' helped her to know herself better.

She said: "That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real.

“I wrote some of it before even doing anything with a girl, and then wrote the rest after. I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand—until, last year, I realised I wanted my face in a vagina."

We love that for her.
