At a festive luncheon held Thursday, May 9, at South Pasadena High School, the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) hosted its annual honorary service awards. Each year, the PTSA selects outstanding volunteers, who have gone above and beyond, to recognize with special awards.
The honorees for 2024 included: Natasha Stebbins, Victoria Abelev, Sienna Drake, Marlee Foster and Rowan Smith for promoting a “Culture of Wellness” at SPHS with a Certificate of Appreciation; Susan Sulsky, a longtime Tiger volunteer, with a Certificate of Appreciation; Yuen Chung, a multi-year PTSA executive board member with a Certificate of Appreciation; Jenny Bright, who served in multiple roles on the PTSA executive board with an Honorary Service Award; Ittai Shadmon, a PTSA board member, Boosters board member and DUDES co-president with an Honorary Service Award; custodial foreman Raymond Alarcon with a Certificate of Appreciation; PTSA President Rachel Fox with a Distinguished Volunteer Service Award and longtime music teacher and band director Howard Crawford with a Distinguished Volunteer Service Award.
Staff, teachers, administration as well as community members and school board members Karissa Adams, Karen Tamis and Patricia Martinez-Miller attended the luncheon, which was organized by Sorrel Barnard and Sally Hwang, the SPHS PTSA Honorary Service Awards co-chairs. Congratulations to this year’s HSA recipients for their contributions and commitment to SPHS. You are simply TIGERIFFIC!
