The Chelsea captain did everything but lead by example from the bench during Wednesday night’s victory against Brighton.

Chelsea captain Reece James was sent off for a rash challenge minutes after coming on their 2-1 win against Brighton.

The Blues defeated the Seagulls at the Amex on Wednesday night, May 15, to keep their dream of securing European football alive.

James, who had just made his return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines ruined his second cameo after making a rash challenge in the 89th minute of Wednesday’s fixture.

Having been fouled by Joao Pedro, the England wing-back struck out his leg - connecting with the thigh of the Brazilian striker, after which referee Michael Salisbury shown him a straight red, following a VAR replay.

Pulse Sports earlier reported that James will now be banned for the first three Premier League games next season, being his second red card of the 2023/24 campaign.

Lauren was giving her marching orders  after VAR review showed she had stamped on Super Falcons of Nigeria star Michelle Alozie, during their round of 16 fixture against the Lionesses of England.

However, on Wednesday evening, Chelsea were 2-0 up when James was given his marching orders.

Cole Palmer and substitute Chris Nkunku's gave the Blues a comfortable 2-0 lead for most of the encounter.

Brighton pulled a goal back after Danny Welbeck slotted home in stoppage time.
