Why do people underestimate cap?

So I’m not a huge modern marvel reader. Not that I don’t want to, I would love to get into modern marvel but I just don’t know where to start. I currently read a lot of old stuff, especially old cap. A lot of things I see online are how cap is so weak and that he can’t hold his own and that he’s just a guy with a shield. Which I never understood, because as far as I am aware, he has always been very powerful. People say cap can’t take on the avengers but a rich guy who dresses like a bat can? Do people realize that cap is a master at every known martial arts too, and he’s way stronger than Batman is. I want to say tactically he’s probably smarter too do to military training and experience, as well as things like a photographic memory and things such as that. Anyway, if I want to get into modern cap, where should I start? Winter soldier? Civil war? Secret Empire? I know a general idea of the events in recent years like falcon becoming cap and Steve being a sleeper cell but not actually a sleeper cell. However, I don’t know what he’s up to now. He’s my favorite comic book character of all time as of right now and I feel so old only reading his older stuff.

Because most people on the internet know Bats better because of 50 years of movies, cartoons and TV shows. Cap has JUST started hitting mainstream again. I think Kids who grow up know Cap mostly from the Marvel movies will have a different opinion. No way you watch Winter Soldier or Civil War and walk away thinking that this guy loses ANY of the movie Batman. As far as where to start reading modern Cap, Brubaker's run is a great place to start. That's the Winter Soldier stuff... Start there and continue. I'm behind on my Cap stuff myself.

Movie Cap’s feats are far more impressive than anything Batman has achieved in the movies.

Comic feats they both have some impressive moments but it is frustrating how Cap is constantly the underdog in a lot of forums. He’s no slouch and the leader of the Avengers for a reason.

Explain this to me please a youtuber actually said his two most hated marvel characters are cap and iron man. What that's insane??????? Just what I don't get it, my wife loves first avenger and from then on its been cap for me.

It's called batwankery, the whole prep time même with batman and his constant match-ups and secret plans hand protocols against everyone make people overrate batman

to be fair, the comics do portray batman as a crazy strong badass (tanking a hit from a bloodlusted wonderwoman while bedridden, surviving a fall from space, 1v100 battles, no diffing 2 lions, etc etc) I love cap, absolutely love him, but he ain't winning lol

Cap is easily beating bat in a regular with no prep time battle

u/Transfiguredbet avatar

Their feats are very comparable. It wouldnt be easy for the captain at all.

first off, "easily" is crazy secondly, I don't know if you've read anything I've written in the parenthesis, but cap just isn't matching up to batman. all of those feats I listed, were either bruce with no armor, or bruce with his standard armor. He doesn't need prep, prep is overkill

I personally don’t agree Batman beats Cap, but I hate when people say “easily” or “it’s not even close” because 99% of the time when someone says that it is literally very close.

Love Cap but he not beating Batman if he got problems fighting Batroc

That guy is a beast when well written, also bat has problems with an actual clown so he isn't much different

I'll never forgive Deathbattle for giving Batman the win simply because "Batman fights dirty" as though Captain America doesn't regularly fight and defeat less then honorable opponents.

I recommend Brubakers Cap run if you want more modern Cap stuff. Also, Hickman’s Avengers run has tons of great Cap moments, especially during the Infinity story.

Oh and people underestimate Cap because he wears bright colors and talks like a boy scout. It’s not a mistake someone would likely repeat, unless that person is Tony Stark.

a lot of people miss understand his main ability the super soldier serum made him peak human and thats where people assumed he stayed

but he was able to improve past what any human could after that

I always liked the Marvel Vs DC conclusion of their fight. They were basically tied. Cap had the edge in strength but Bats “melts into the shadows” (Caps own words) and attacks from them. It was only a random accident, water pipe breaking from the action and blasting them, that threw one off enough for the other to win. And then they immediately start working together once the contest match is over. <3

I think if deathstroke is neck and neck with Batman, cap should be too because cap is, at the very least, comparable to DS. They’re both super soldiers and have similar abilities. Deathstroke has beaten bats so many times in the comics, and he’s also able to solo the titans so 🤷

I don’t recall ever hearing cap was weak - he’s a super serum soldier that used to get under Iron man’s skin big time. Just read on and draw yr own conclusions. I definitely wd look at the series Falcon and the winter soldier which shows Falcon’s transformation into Capt America. It is the best. Period. And I’m stuck on it and pissed at marvel/disney for not jumping on a season 2. Cap knew what he was doing when he passed the mantle to Falcon. Enjoy!
