Belousov will be Minister of Defense

Putin appoints a bean counter to the post of Russian Minister of defense

[ColonelCassad] Putin nominated Belousov to the post of Minister of Defense.

What a twist.

More from the Financial Times:
Putin replaces security chiefs in surprise reshuffle
Vladimir Putin has replaced two of his longest-serving security officials in a surprise reshuffle, suggesting the Russian president is dissatisfied with the handling of his two-year invasion of Ukraine.

Putin, who was sworn in for a fifth term in office earlier this week extending his quarter-century rule until at least 2030, has moved Sergei Shoigu, the defence minister since 2012, to become head of Russia’s security council on Sunday, according to the upper house of parliament.
Putin kicked Shoigu upstairs.
Andrei Belousov, a deputy prime minister and longtime economic adviser to Putin, is to replace Shoigu.

Nikolai Patrushev, a hawkish former spy and one of Putin’s closest aides who has led the security council since 2008, will take up an unspecified new position.

Putin’s appointments mark the biggest shake-up of his security officials in a decade and a half, even as his forces continue to advance against Ukraine’s outmanned, outgunned army.

The Kremlin painted Shoigu’s move as part of efforts to rein in Russia’s runaway defence spending. On Putin’s orders to supply armed forces fighting in Ukraine this has been earmarked for the current year at a record Rbs10.8tn ($118.5bn).

The Russian perspective from RIA Novosti
Cutting-edge ideas. What is known about Andrei Belousov
While the State Duma is approving the nominations of Cabinet members sent for approval, Vladimir Putin has begun consultations with the Federation Council. The president, together with the upper house, will have to determine the composition of the government’s power bloc and the head of the Foreign Ministry. One of the main intrigues in the Northern Military District is the future Minister of Defense. Unexpectedly for experts, Putin proposed Andrei Belousov for this post.

SUDDEN REPLACEMENT
For now, at the head of the Ministry of Defense - in an acting capacity, since the government resigned on inauguration day is Sergei Shoigu. He has been in this position since 2012, and before that he headed the Ministry of Emergency Situations. All these years, according to opinion polls, he was regularly among the officials with a high level of trust.

Three weeks ago, the military department found itself in the center of public attention, but not in connection with the Northern Military District. Deputy Minister Timur Ivanov was detained on suspicion of taking a bribe.

The Kremlin did not connect this with the head of the Ministry of Defense. However, on May 12, Putin proposed changing the minister. According to the list received from the president to the Federation Council, Shoigu is the only one from the power bloc who was decided not to be reappointed.

HEREDITARY ECONOMIST
While Shoigu was among the most recognizable ministers, Andrei Belousov, who worked in the economic bloc, did not appear on television screens so often.

But in big politics, the former first deputy prime minister in the government of Mikhail Mishustin is an experienced person.

A hereditary economist, his father helped develop the economic reforms of the 1960s. Ph.D. At the end of the USSR - employee of the Central Economics and Mathematics Institute, Institute of Economics and Forecasting of Scientific and Technological Progress. Since the 1990s - at the Institute of National Economic Forecasting of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 2006, Belousov was appointed deputy minister of economic development and trade, and in 2008 - director of the department of economics and finance of the government apparatus.

In the Cabinet of Dmitry Medvedev, he is the manager from Russia at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. And since 2013, he has been Putin’s assistant on economic issues. In addition, in 2015-2018 - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rosneft.

CYBERNETICS METHODS
Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized: Andrei Belousov is not just a civil official, but an accomplished successful specialist. If the Federation Council approves him, he will become the second non-military Minister of Defense after Anatoly Serdyukov.

His knowledge and experience will be useful, since, according to Peskov, the department “must be absolutely open to innovation, the introduction of all advanced ideas, and the creation of conditions for economic competitiveness.”

“That is why the president chose the candidacy of Andrei Removich Belousov,” the press secretary emphasized.

It was no coincidence that we started talking about innovation. By specialty obtained at Moscow State University, Belousov is a cybernetic economist. And obviously, the stake now is not only on the economic merits of the applicant, but also on his ability to “refresh” the work of the department with non-standard methods.

The transfer to the post of head of the Security Council is similar to another taxi driver’s signature hit:

1) they were transferred specifically to the Head, so that our suspicious armchair expert/kitchen-political lochtorat very predictably the whole crowd would not think that Khuzhenetovich had fallen into disgrace.
Khuzhenetovich is the patronymic of Sergey Shoigu.
Experts everywhere are already explaining to the scammer that this is a transfer_with_increase, because they say the Security Council includes all the security forces and the Defense Ministry, including, and therefore Khuzhenetovich now became the head not only of the Defense Ministry, but also of all the security forces.

2) Attentive people know the fate of a huge proportion of the highest stripes who commanded the return to their native harbor: a wave of “heart attacks, strokes, traffic accidents, accidents”, etc.

Perhaps this will be the case with this bearer of too many secrets, which even more concern the very, very highest persons of the state and the management processes at the very top.

There will be an “honorable retirement” as head of the Security Council, then a sudden illness and untimely departure for the new incarnation of this lover of pagoda-style villas.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov will continue to hold his post, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov told reporters on May 12.

According to him, no changes are envisaged in relation to Gerasimov.

As reported by IA Regnum, on May 12, the Federation Council reported that President Vladimir Putin proposed appointing Andrei Belousov, who previously served as First Deputy Prime Minister, as the new Minister of Defense of Russia.

Shoigu will become Secretary of the Security Council; the new position of former Secretary Nikolai Patrushev will be announced later, Peskov said.

Shoigu, as Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, will be President Vladimir Putin’s deputy in the commission on the military-industrial complex, Peskov also noted. He will oversee the work of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and will continue to work in an area that he knows well, the press secretary of the head of state emphasized.

Putin dismissed Patrushev from the post of Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev has been relieved of his post since May 12. The corresponding decree was signed by President Vladimir Putin.

“To release Patrushev Nikolai Platonovich from the post of Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation in connection with his transfer to another job,” the Kremlin press service clarified the text of the decree.

The decree came into force from the date of its signing.

Nikolai Patrushev has served as Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation since May 12, 2008. Before that, he headed the FSB of Russia, was deputy head of the Russian Presidential Administration - head of the Main Control Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation. Patrushev has been working in the state security agencies since 1974.

As Regnum reported, also on May 12 it became known about the dismissal of Sergei Shoigu from the post of Minister of Defense. By decree of Vladimir Putin, he was appointed secretary of the Russian Security Council. In his new post, Shoigu will simultaneously be deputy to the presidential commission on the military-industrial complex, since “he is deeply immersed in this work,” noted the Russian leader’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

The government resigned before President Vladimir Putin took office on May 7. Putin thanked the ministers for their work and instructed the outgoing government to work until a new cabinet of ministers is formed.

Ukrainians about personnel changes in the Russian Ministry of Defense
Expert Kushch: Belousov’s appointment was bad news for Ukraine

The candidacy of Andrei Belousov for the post of Minister of Defense proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin is “bad news” for Ukraine. This was stated by Ukrainian economist Alexey Kushch.

Commenting on Belousov’s proposed appointment, the expert was concerned that “everything is leading to a sharp increase in the dynamics of the Russian military-industrial complex and an increase in military production in Russia.”

“This is very bad news for us, since our ministerial positions are the antipodes of Belousov’s policies with the agenda of vulgar liberalism during the war,” Kushch wrote on social networks, calling on “everyone to evaluate the results independently.”

As Regnum reported, President Vladimir Putin proposed appointing Andrei Belousov as Minister of Defense.

From 2012 to the present, the Ministry of Defense is headed by Sergei Shoigu.

The appointment of Andrei Belousov to the post of Minister of Defense will bring “only benefits” to the Russian Armed Forces. This opinion was voiced by the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov.

On May 12, Vladimir Putin proposed that the Federation Council reappoint the heads of several security and other ministries.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: May 12, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 21:54 By his decree, Putin dismissed Nikolai Patrushev from the post of Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation “in connection with a transfer to another job,” and appointed ex-Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu in his place. At the same time, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov will continue to work in his post. Peskov said that Putin “decided that the Russian Ministry of Defense should be headed by a civilian; the department should be open to innovation and advanced ideas.” Peskov also noted that it is very important to “fit the economy of the power bloc into the country’s economy so that it corresponds to the dynamics.”

21:26 Putin proposed appointing a new Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation instead of Shoigu - as reported in the Federation Council, the Kremlin nominated Andrei Belousov, the first deputy chairman of the head of government Mishustin, for this position.

20:09 As of 18:00, all streets of Volchansk are under the control of the Defense Forces, said the head of the city military administration Tamaz Gambarashvili. According to him, there were small groups of Russians who tried to enter the territory and streets of the city, but now the city is completely under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the same time, Gambarashvili noted that Volchansk is under massive shelling by the Russians, residents continue to leave. “I think that within another one or two days we will completely evacuate the population,” added the head of the GVA.

20:01 The settlements into which the enemy entered were in a permanent “gray zone,” and therefore this success is “conditional” and costs the enemy huge losses in equipment and manpower, the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said: “Territory ", occupied by the enemy, is localized, and constant fire is carried out on it. The situation in the defense zone of our brigade is complex, but controllable."

19:56 US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed confidence that Ukraine will be able to hold the front line in the Kharkov region: “I am convinced that Ukraine will be able to effectively hold the line in the east and will be able to continue to use the advantages achieved in the Black Sea.”

19:45 The intention of Russian strikes in the Kharkov region is to stretch Ukrainian forces and undermine the moral and motivational basis of the ability of Ukrainians to defend themselves, Zelensky said in an evening video message. According to him, there are fierce battles along a significant part of the border strip. “There are villages that have actually turned from a gray zone into a combat zone, and the occupier is trying to gain a foothold in some of them, and simply use some for further advancement,” the president said. At the same time, he noted that the Pokrovsky direction is now the toughest. Also tough are Limanskoye, Vremevskoye, Kramatorskoye, Kupyanskoye directions.

17:28 As a result of Russian attacks in Volchansk, Kharkov region, one person was killed and five were injured, the prosecutor’s office reported.

17:19 People are leaving Volchansk, Kharkov region, in large numbers due to constant shelling, as well as the risk of re-occupation of the city, Radio Liberty reports. The head of the Kharkov OVA Oleg Sinegubov said that up to 500 people remain in Volchansk, the evacuation continues. He also said that during these days the number of massive artillery and air strikes has increased: Volchansk, Liptsy and all points of the northern border are under enemy fire almost around the clock. Today, information has been received about two casualties in Liptsy and Volchansk. The number of settlements where active hostilities are taking place has also increased.

15:51 A high-rise building in Belgorod could have been blown up from the inside, according to OSINT analyst and military observer Tendar. According to him, in the footage published online, not a single falling rocket is visible, but only smoke and flying debris. “A residential building was blown up in Belgorod. Throughout this war, I have seen many damaged residential buildings, and I am almost sure that this one is completely different. The pattern of the explosion indicates an explosion from inside the building,” the expert noted.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, Andrei Kovalenko, also did not rule out a provocation by the Russian Federation: “The house in Belgorod appears to have been blown up. The video from the cameras does not show falling objects, therefore, all the Russian accusations of shelling by the Defense Forces are untrue.” According to Kovalenko, this looks like a Russian provocation or a domestic explosion.

14:40 Ukrainian senior military leadership knew about Russia’s offensive plans in the north of the Kharkov region, said Andrey Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense: “The enemy’s actions in this direction began according to a known schedule, about which all authorities, leadership and command were informed by the Main Intelligence Directorate. Accepted necessary measures. Together with the Security and Defense Forces in the Kharkov direction, special forces and special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry are now fighting the enemy."

Yusov also said that military personnel from the Moscow and Leningrad military districts are fighting on the enemy’s side in the Kharkov direction. One of the objectives of the enemy’s latest actions in the Kharkov region is destabilization and the intention to sow panic in Ukraine, Yusov added and called for trusting trusted and official sources of information.

14:26 As a result of the new shelling of Belgorod, 19 people were injured, including two children, said Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. An entire entrance to one of the multi-storey buildings collapsed. Various damages were recorded in 62 apartments of three apartment buildings. The Russian Ministry of Defense said that a house in Belgorod collapsed as a result of falling debris from a downed Tochka U missile, which was allegedly launched from Ukraine.

12:08 Attempts by Russian troops to break through Ukrainian defenses have been stopped, Syrsky said. “We know the enemy’s plans and react flexibly to all his actions. To strengthen the defense, all necessary measures are taken and decisions are made quickly, including personnel decisions. The situation is difficult, but the Ukrainian Defense Forces are doing everything to maintain defensive lines and positions,” he assured commander-in-chief.

He said that there are intense battles in the Kupyansky, Seversky, Limansky, Pokrovsky directions, and the situation is changing very dynamically. In some areas the enemy has partial success, in others the Defense Forces displace the enemy and improve their tactical position.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy does not abandon attempts to capture the city of Chasov Yar and continues to advance east of the city. Unsuccessfully trying to restore the lost position in the Kleshcheevka area. Despite the difficult situation at the front, units are being rotated to rest military personnel and restore the combat effectiveness of brigades, Syrsky noted.

11:12 Scholz said that Ukrainian men with a residence permit will be able to stay in Germany: “The legal situation is such that residence here is not called into question. Employment also leads to security of residence.” The Chancellor also called on Ukrainians to find work in Germany: “We hope that those who came from Ukraine will work as soon as they are able to work. It is worth noting that many are already doing this, but there are still several hundred thousand of those who are urgently needed for labor market."

10:53 More than 4,000 thousand residents were evacuated from the territories of the Kharkov region, where the enemy intensified hostilities, in more than two days, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the OVA.

09:40 Power steering drones attacked three objects on Russian territory at night, Ukrainian media write, citing sources. These are the Volgograd Oil Refinery, Kaluganefteprodukt and Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant.

09:37 In the Donetsk region, as a result of Russian shelling on May 11, two people were wounded - in Novoselovka First and Nikolaevka, said the head of the OVA Vadim Filashkin.

09:33 In the Kherson region, as a result of Russian shelling over the past 24 hours, one person was killed, five were injured, including one child, said the head of the OVA, Alexander Prokudin. A private house and public infrastructure facility were damaged.

Another person died as a result of artillery shelling. Glubokoe, Kharkov district.

09:03 Trump again said that he would end the war in Ukraine immediately after being re-elected president: “From the first day we take the White House from the dishonest Joe Biden, I believe we will have the four greatest years in the history of our country. Until then "I will even walk into the Oval Office, right after I win, I will resolve the terrible conflict between Russia and Ukraine. I know them well."

08:29 Over the past 24 hours, May 11, air defense units of southern Ukraine destroyed five Russian reconnaissance UAVs - four ZALA in the Kherson region and Orlan-10 in the Nikolaev region, the Air Force reported.

07:53 A fire started at the Volgograd Oil Refinery after a drone attack, but it was quickly extinguished, Governor Andrei Bocharov said. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that during the night six UAVs were allegedly destroyed and intercepted over the Bryansk, Volgograd and Lipetsk regions, and two Tochka-U missiles were also destroyed over the territory of the Belgorod region.

02:35 Ukrainian fighters of the Gostri Kartuzi unit from the National Guard report that due to great pressure from the Russians, the Defense Forces had to withdraw from some positions in the Kharkov region. At about 14:00 on May 11, fighting for the village began. Deep, of strategic importance. The Russians suffer heavy losses, but still put pressure and in some places have success. Erdogan says US, Europe not doing enough to pressure Israel into Gaza truce
[GEO.TV] Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday that the United States and European countries were not doing enough to pressure Israel to agree a ceasefire in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Speaking to Moslem scholars in Istanbul, Erdogan said Hamas had accepted a ceasefire proposal by Qatar

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Meghan Markle says it was ''humbling'' to discover she is part-Nigerian
[AFRICANEWS] As she met with women in Nigeria on Saturday, Princess Meghan Markle
...unlikable American former starlet married to the formerly likable Prince Harry. Chock full of lefty political opinions, Markle's most important characteristic is that she is Black, even though she doesn't look it. Her mother, y'see, is half black and her father is white, which would make her a quarter Black. Her half brother described her (to her husband, before their marriage) as a jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage. Once married, she was too good for the Royals and she and Harry decamped to Beverly Hills, kind of like the Clampetts did, thus making a joke of Harry and the royal family heritage...
, the Duchess of Sussex, said it had been "humbling" to find out recently through a genealogy test that she is partly Nigerian.

"It’s been really eye-opening to be able to know more about my heritage and to be able to know this is just the beginning of my discovery," she told guests at the event on women in leadership.

Markle and her husband, British Prince Harry, are visiting Nigeria for the first time to promote mental health for soldiers and maiden of tender yearss.

"What’s been echoed so much really in the past day by men and women alike is 'Oh! We weren’t surprised when you found out you were Nigerian," she said.

"I say that mostly as a compliment to all of you, because what they define as a Nigerian woman is brave, resilient, courageous, powerful, beautiful," she added.

Markle is known for her advocacy on women’s rights and gender equality.

The event, held in the capital Abuja, was co-hosted by Nigerian economist and head of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

It highlighted the importance of female leadership and empowerment in driving positive change globally. Participants discussed the importance of mentorship for young women and career challenges faced by women in the country.

"Oftentimes, when women reach the peak of success, they leave. But you need to come back home, you need to at least be a familiar face for the next generation to say 'Oh she looks like me, and I can be that'," said Markle.

The wind is from the north. The Russian army is advancing in the Kharkov region
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Mikhail Zakharov

[REGNUM] The “North” group of the Russian army is developing an offensive in the Kharkov direction, occupying populated areas and hitting the personnel and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Meanwhile, Kyiv is looking for reserves, trying to strengthen the front defense.

On the morning of Friday, May 10, it became known about a sharp increase in artillery and missile attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces targets in the Kharkov region. According to military correspondents, Ukrainian formations and their infrastructure in the settlements of Goptovka, Krasnoe, Pylnaya, Strelechya, Volchansk and Borisovka were targeted.

“All night there were heavy attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces installations and Ukrainian Wehrmacht positions in the border areas. They beat me noticeably harder than usual,” military correspondent Yuri Kotenok wrote in his Telegram channel.

Russian troops also actively used Lancet kamikaze drones, and the Aerospace Forces aircraft launched strikes with guided bombs and high-precision missiles.

It is reported that after heavy fire preparation, limited offensive operations began in order to create a buffer zone on the border. The head of the administration of the Kharkov region, Vitaly Ganchev, noted in his Telegram channel that “ there are battles on several sections of the contact line, including in the border areas of the Kharkov region ”

According to military correspondent Alexander Kots, the Russian Armed Forces carried out “ hard combat work ” in that direction. At the same time, Kots warns against misrepresentation: one should not expect the lightning-fast liberation of populated areas and the rapid movement of our troops towards Kharkov.

“THE ENEMY IS DRAGGING RESERVES FROM KHARKOV”
On Saturday, May 11, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that units of the North group of forces, as a result of offensive actions, liberated the settlements of Borisovka, Ogurtsovo, Pletenevka, Pylnaya and Strecheya in the Kharkov region.

Our troops defeated the manpower and equipment of a number of Ukrainian formations in the areas of Volchansk, Vesyoly, Glubokoye, Neskuchny and Krasny in the Kharkov region, and enemy losses per day amounted to up to 170 military personnel, three armored combat vehicles and four vehicles.

“In addition, the following were destroyed: a Vampire multiple launch rocket system combat vehicle made in the Czech Republic, a 155-mm Caesar self-propelled artillery mount made in France, a 155-mm Bogdan self-propelled artillery mount, four 152-mm D-20 howitzers, a 122-mm D howitzer -30 and two self-propelled firing installations of the Buk anti-aircraft missile system,” the Ministry of Defense commented.

The Russian army is building on its success: our troops have reached the outskirts of the city of Volchansk, located seven kilometers from the border. The Telegram channel “Military Chronicle,” with reference to unconfirmed data, writes that the forces of the “North” group “ are actively breaking through the fortified areas near Volchansk and are actually standing on the threshold of the city.”

The enemy, in turn, also notes the intensification of hostilities in this direction. The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, confirmed the offensive of the Russian army in the Kharkov region, saying that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are ready for this. At the same time, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense previously reported that reserve units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been deployed towards Volchansk - without specifying their number and composition.

“The enemy is dragging reserves from Kharkov, trying to hinder our offensive,” writes the “Older Edda” Telegram channel.

The authorities of Volchansk began evacuating residents of this and neighboring settlements in the Kharkov region. According to the head of the local military administration, all the children were taken out of Volchansk.

The advance of the Russian army was confirmed in the West. The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) writes that our troops "have achieved tactically significant successes." In turn, White House National Security Advisor John Kirby said that “the Russians are preparing for a larger attack on Kharkov.”

BORDER SECURITY AND KEEPING THE ENEMY AT BAY
Now the Russian army is conducting an operation in the Kharkov region to protect and ensure the security of the Russian border, military expert, associate professor of the department of political analysis and socio-psychological processes of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Oleg Glazunov told IA Regnum.

According to him, the operation is local in nature and is aimed at protecting the border. Its goal is to prevent further shelling of peaceful cities and villages by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Therefore, the border areas are cleared of Ukrainian formations.

Back in June 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would have to consider creating a sanitary zone in Ukraine due to shelling of our territories. After winning the presidential elections, the head of state again touched upon this topic.

“To create a security zone, which will be quite difficult to overcome, using the weapons that the enemy uses, primarily, of course, foreign-made,” explained Vladimir Putin.

A sanitary zone should be created not only for the Belgorod region, but also for other regions suffering from shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, says military expert Vasily Dandykin : for example, in the Sumy and Chernigov regions.

Another, no less important task is to divert the enemy’s attention, force him to transfer forces from the area of the city of Chasov Yar to the Donetsk direction, where fierce fighting is taking place.

“And although Syrsky [Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky. — Approx. ed.] says that, in general, we will hold the defense, we have enough strength for everything, but we’ll wait and see. In my opinion, he may be wrong again,” Dandykin told IA Regnum.

Russian troops have enough forces and means to attack in different directions, pulling apart enemy forces, believes military expert, head of the Center for the Study of Military and Political Conflicts Andrei Klintsevich.

“Ukraine is forced to transfer reserves from one place to another because they do not have enough strength. It is on these rotations, on these transfers that we catch them now and strike them,” Klintsevich said in a conversation with IA Regnum.

The expert compared the state of affairs at the front to a duel with swords: a thrust is made, the enemy tries to counterattack, his action is reflected - and he receives a new blow.

“In this situation, counterattacks and movements of enemy forces and assets are very beneficial for us,” said Andrei Klintsevich.

India-Pakistan
'May 9 was an attempt to incite rebellion within armed forces in favour of PTI'
[GEO.TV] The caretaker government's report on May 9 said that it was an organised and dangerous strategy not only to pressurise the Pakistain Army for a political deal to meet Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
's demands but a brazen attempt to incite rebellion from within the armed forces in Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
's (PTI) favour.

"The party had been emboldened by a lack of firm response to its earlier violence by state institutions. A frontal assault on military installations was to weaken the army’s morale and pressure it into political deal making. This was also a brazen and a mistaken attempt at inciting rebellion from within the armed forces in its favour," says the report.

It added, "The events of May 9, 2023 were neither isolated nor entirely spontaneous. They were part of an organised and dangerous strategy to pressure state institutions into acceding to Mr Khan’s demands."

The report said that the events of May 9 were the culmination of a narrative built around a personality cult, and a strategy that justified violence against his opponents as national service.

The caretaker government's cabinet committee, which probed the matter, noted with "profound pain" that a popular political party would elect to hurt national interest through such reckless plans.

The Constitution guarantees the right of political association to advance the interests of the people, not to harm state institutions and national interests.

According to the report, "[Imran] Khan had long seen the military establishment as, both, the entity responsible for his ouster from the government and the only institution he was open to negotiating with.

"He [Khan] had repeatedly voiced his contempt for other political parties and their leaders and his constant refusal to even sit in Parliament with them. He had also expressed a desire to engage with the military establishment to find political solutions.

"Khan refused to respect the constitutional role for the armed forces that require them to remain apolitical. He desired active engagement by the armed forces in politics in violation of their constitutional mandate. When the armed forces refused to be dragged into politics, Khan and his party sought to create an environment that would pressure them into engaging with him.

"This was augmented by a media strategy through local and external platforms. Khan at no point denounced or disowned the May 9 events, rather twisted its facts to widen the divide between the people and the armed forces, nor he has publicly acknowledged the consequences of this event on the national security of Pakistain.

Sudanese army bolsters forces in Al-Faw as fight for Al Jazirah continues
[SUDANTRIBUNE] In a second visit within two weeks, Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
’s Deputy Military Commander, Shams al-Din Kabashi, inspected operations on the al-Faw front in eastern Al Jazirah State on Sunday.

Several sources said that Major General Adam Haroun, accompanying Kabashi, has been appointed to lead the al-Faw military area. His appointment comes after his successful leadership in reclaiming strategic locations in Omdurman in March.

Sovereign Council media highlighted the "harmony and high morale" of stationed forces during Kabashi’s visit. Photos released by the Council confirmed Haroun’s presence, with sources indicating his mission is to regain control of Al Jazirah from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The Sudanese army encircles Al Jazirah from multiple directions. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
the al-Faw axis, east of Wad Madani, has seen setbacks.

Last week, army-allied forces, including factions led by Gibril Ibrahim and Minni Minnawi, retreated from the village of al-Faqeesha. The RSF claims victories against these groups.

This ongoing conflict has caused immense hardship for civilians. Rights groups accuse the RSF of killings, looting, and rape in Al Jazirah villages. A communications blackout exceeding 90 days has further exacerbated the situation.

The fight for Al Jazirah remains deadlocked, with the Sudanese army attempting to dislodge the RSF. The Sudanese people continue to bear the brunt of the conflict, enduring both violence and restricted communication.

Pope Francis: ''War is a deception''
[AFRICANEWS] Pope Francis

...Argentine liberation theologist, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio. He was elected pope in 2013. Rather than setting up shop in Avignon, where he belongs, the first Jesuit Pope chose to reside in the Domus Sanctae Marthae guesthouse instead of the papal apartments. He is big on climate change, against consumerism, and in favor of throwing a blanket over homosexual activity within the clergy. He's not real sure about the Resurrection, about Christ's divinity, and a few other things that would have gotten him burned at the stake a few hundred years ago, but he's hot for a certain South American Earth Mother Goddess...
expressed concern on Saturday for "the planet in flames" because of wars during his meeting with the participants of '#BeHuman', the world meeting on human fraternity that brings together 30 Nobel Prize laureates and top figures from international bodies at the Vatican for a dialogue on peace.

"On a planet in flames, you have come together to reaffirm your 'no' to war and ’yes’ to peace, bearing witness to the humanity that unites us and makes us recognise each other as brothers, in the mutual gift of our respective cultural differences," the pope told the delegates.

Among those attending the meeting are New York Mayor Eric Adams
...Hizonner da Mare of Noo Yawk. As a Manchurian candidate, Hizonner was all in favor of law and order and that kind of stuff. Once in office, a few of his friends found cushy jobs with the city, the windows kept getting broken, and Soros-funded DA Alvin Bragg remained right where he was. Most people comfort themselves with the thought that he's not Bill di Blasio but that's pretty small comfort with kids who actually go to school getting bumped off while standing in front of them. But he's a Dem, so the rubes will vote for him next election too, so he's what they deserve...
, retired U.S. football star Tom Brady, country singer Garth Brooks, former first lady of South Africa Graca Machel Mandela, and Nobel laureates Maria Ressa and Jody Williams.

The pontiff said that "war is a deception. War is always a defeat, as is the idea of international security based on the deterrent of fear. It is another deception. To ensure lasting peace, we must return to a recognition of our common humanity and place fraternity at the center of peoples' lives."

The two-day meeting has been organised by the 'Fratelli tutti' foundation and will consist of 12 thematic tables set up in different locations in Rome, such as the Palazzo de Campidoglio and the Vatican's Chancellery.

Israel 'unsure' if Hamas leader Sinwar is in Rafah
[NEWARAB] Israel is unsure of the exact whereabouts of Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
big turban Yahya Sinwar in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
despite claiming otherwise, according to a report on Saturday.

Sinwar has been top of Israel's hit list and the military has said that its Rafah incursion was aiming to target Sinwar and other key players in Hamas's leadership, who have so far largely dodged Israeli attacks.

Israeli officials told The Times of Israel that they do not know Sinwar's exact current location but believe the leader could be in underground tunnels in the southern Khan Younis area.

The leader of Hamas in Gaza is said to have orchestrated the surprise October 7 attack into southern Israel, which killed 1,139 Israelis and saw the group take around 250 people captive.

The attack prompted Israel's brutal invasion of Gaza, now in its eighth month, which has killed over 35,000 Paleostinians, decimated the enclave and triggered a major humanitarian crisis.

The Israeli government has said that targeting Hamas’s leader is one of its key objectives in the war but has so far failed to make many significant hits.

The army has made claims that it is confident in the whereabouts of the Paleostinian group's leadership and has used it to justify repeated attacks on dense civilian areas.

Sudan's descent into chaos sets stage for al-Qaida to make a return to historic stronghold
[AFRICANEWS] "Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
's moment has come; chaos is our chance to sow the seeds of jihad," warned Abu Hudhaifa al-Sudani, a high-ranking al-Qaeda leader, in an October 2022 manifesto.

His words may have seemed premature at the time, but a year of brutal civil war has now plunged Sudan into the kind of chaos in which terrorist groups thrive. The risk of al-Qaeda gaining ground in Sudan is now very real and imperils, I believe, not only the country itself but also regional — and potentially global — security.

In April 2023, fighting broke out in Sudan between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, creating a power vacuum that Lions of Islam are eager to fill.

At the same time, the Rapid Support Forces — a group that developed under and was once allied to Sudan's al-Qaeda-harboring former president Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...>
— has been solidifying its grip in strategic areas such as Darfur and southern Khartoum.

Indeed, both the paramilitary group and the armed forces have been accused of recruiting Islamist fighters, fueling fears that the civil war will — regardless of the victor — prove a toehold for bully boy groups.

As a defense policy researcher and counterterrorism expert, I'm concerned that Sudan risks becoming an al-Qaeda stronghold — and a potential base for orchestrating attacks on the U.S. and its allies. A potential Rapid Support Forces takeover in Sudan could mirror pre-9/11 Afghanistan, where Taliban
...Arabic for students...
control facilitated al-Qaeda's rise.

Al-Qaeda members, seeking opportunities to achieve what they couldn't in the Middle East, are already heeding calls to head to Sudan.

DECADES OF TURMOIL AND EXTREMISM
Sudan's civil strife predates the current fighting by decades. It ignited in 1989 when al-Bashir seized power, aligning the nation with radical Islamist ideologies. He imposed Sharia law and in 1991 sheltered al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
...... who is now neither a strong horse nor a weak horse, but a dead horse......
. Under al-Bashir's regime, bin Laden established training camps and expanded al-Qaeda's financial network, laying the groundwork for the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Facing international sanctions over its support of terrorism, Sudan expelled bin Laden in 1996.

But al-Bashir's sponsorship of the Janjaweed militia group, the architects of the 2003 Darfur genocide, further solidified his alignment with Islamist bully boys. Under scrutiny, al-Bashir rebranded the Janjaweed as the Rapid Support Forces in 2013, appointing ex-Janjaweed member Mohammed Hamdan "Hemeti" Dagalo as its leader and retaining their brutal tactics.

The 2021 coup, orchestrated by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of the Sudanese Armed Forces and Hemeti of the Rapid Support Forces, soon devolved into a power struggle between the two men, igniting Sudan's current conflict.

Today, with Hemeti at the helm, the paramilitary group continues its oppressive campaign in West Darfur, engaging in alleged ethnic cleansing against the Indigenous Masalit people.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy's udder had begun to ache...
a prison attack in April 2023, which the Sudanese army blamed on Rapid Support Forces rebels, facilitated the escape of al-Bashir's allies, though the former president remains hospitalized under guard.

SUDAN AT THE HEART OF JIHAD
With conflicts in the Middle Eastand Eastern Europe, the West might be overlooking the crisis in Sudan and the potential it holds for al-Qaeda, a group that has long harbored ambitions of returning to Sudan.

Despite his expulsion, bin Laden continued to emphasize Sudan's importance in his plans for global jihad. This was evident in his 2006 audiotape and diary entries in which he referred to Sudan as a pivotal operational base.

A 2023 publication by key al-Qaeda figure Ibrahim al-Qussi titled "Fragments from al-Qaeda's History" revealed that bin Laden directed an investment of US$12 million solely for jihad in Sudan, highlighting the region's ongoing relevance to al-Qaeda's objectives.

Sudan's appeal to Lions of Islam extends beyond its connections to bin Laden. Strategically bridging North and sub-Saharan Africa, Sudan is a key location for Islamist Lions of Islam aiming to expand their influence across the region.

After the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the Taliban's return to power, al-Qaeda reestablished a presence in the country, reopening training camps and madrassas.

Well before that, however, al-Qaeda had long since evolved from a centralized organization in Afghanistan into a decentralized network with global affiliates — from the Arabian Peninsula to the Indian subcontinent all the way to sub-Saharan Africa and the Sahel.

HISTORIC TIES, NEW AMBITIONS
Recent developments highlight al-Qaeda's increased focus on Sudan and are driven by detailed expansion plans of Sudanese al-Qaeda leader Abu Hudhaifa al-Sudani. A former bin Laden associate with a notorious background in Afghanistan and Iraq, al-Sudani issued a renewed call for jihad.

Following the onset of civil war in Sudan, al-Sudani's 2022 manifesto, "Now the fighting has come: War messages to the Mujahideen in Sudan," not only prescribes a military strategy of targeted strikes and guerrilla warfare across Sudan but also a vision for jihad extending from Dongola in the country's north to Darfur in its south, with Khartoum as the command center.

Al-Qaeda further articulated its threat in a message on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 attacks on the U.S., promising, "It is only a matter of time before the next strike eclipses the horrors of 9/11."

This declaration, combined with the group's escalating presence in conflict zones such as Niger and Libya, actively positions them to target U.S. interests worldwide. Indeed, a 2022 United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
report indicated that al-Qaeda was planning high-profile attacks, possibly at sea.

What an bully boy takeover would mean

Al-Qaeda's potential in resource-rich Sudan should not be underestimated. Historically, the group's operations from resource-limited Afghanistan were devastating; in Sudan, with its abundance of oil, gold and fertile land, their capabilities could be significantly magnified.

Sudan provides a lucrative base for whoever holds power. Forging links with both sides of the civil war would no doubt be of huge financial benefit to al-Qaeda should either side prevail, in the same way al-Bashir's rule was a generation earlier.

And Sudan's Red Sea access makes it potentially an even greater threat than Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

Gaining a Sudanese stronghold could empower al-Qaeda affiliates across Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, Somalia and the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
, exacerbating regional conflicts and threatening crucial Red Sea trade routes. Interestingly, a United Nations July 2022 report revealed that al-Qaeda's Yemen branch had been boosting its maritime capabilities.

The resurgence of al-Qaeda capabilities in the region could lead to increased piracy, militarized blockades and unregulated arms flow, escalating regional tensions and causing broader geopolitical unrest.

But as the United States redirects resources and attention to wars in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and the Middle East and countering China, Sudan has seemingly slipped down its priority list. Complicating matters further, U.S. responses are tangled in the conflicting interests of its Gulf allies supporting various factions in Sudan's civil war.

The first F-16s could appear in Ukraine within a couple of weeks, media reports
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The first American F-16 fighters may appear in Ukraine in just a few weeks, writes the British newspaper Standar, citing an unnamed military source.

“The first F-16 fighters to be delivered from the West will arrive in Ukraine within a few weeks,” the publication says.

According to the publication’s interlocutor, the first F-16s should be delivered to Kyiv by June or July. At the same time, the source did not specify which countries will provide Ukraine with fighter jets within this time frame.

As Regnum reported, on April 26, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that deliveries of F-16 fighters to the Kiev regime will begin in 2024. According to him, F-16 squadrons will be transferred to Ukraine along with pilots and maintenance personnel who were trained in the West.

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russia will perceive the F-16 fighters transferred to Ukraine as carriers of nuclear weapons.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly noted that the proposed deliveries of F-16s to the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not change the situation in the special operation zone and they will be mercilessly destroyed, like other Western equipment in Ukraine. The head of state noted that American fighters would be a legitimate target for Russia if they were sent against it from airfields in third countries.

Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said in February that if the Ukrainian Armed Forces use the F-16 fighters promised to Kiev from the airfields of NATO member countries, Russia could destroy them as a legitimate target. The expert noted that when these aircraft are stationed at air bases in Romania and Poland, they will turn into targets for the Russian military.

Rafah residents flee 'hell' of Israeli onslaught
[GEO.TV] War-weary Gazooks flooded towards coastal areas of the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Strip's southern city of Rafah on Sunday, fleeing heavy bombardment in eastern zones after Israel ordered them to evacuate.

"We endured three days that can be considered hell," said Mohammed Hamad, a 24-year-old resident of eastern Rafah who was among the 300,000 Paleostinians that Israel says have fled the fighting.

Despite international opposition to any major military operation in Rafah, Israel has shifted its focus to the heavily populated area in what it says is an effort to destroy the last bastion of Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
.

Eastern parts of the city have been heavily bombarded in recent days, according to witnesses, as Israel sent tanks and ground troops into the areas in "targeted raids".

Canadian police arrest fourth Indian man for murder of Sikh leader Nijjar
[GEO.TV] A fourth person has been arrested and charged with the murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar
…erstwhile head of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) in Canada, one of several Sikh groups who seek to carve out an independent homeland for the Sikhs in Indian Punjab, because they respect the borders of their Pakistani trainers and paymasters too much to aim for doing the same in their actual historic homeland in the Pakistani Punjab. While they wait, they amuse themselves with criminality and terrorism, according to the Indian authorities, who had long been trying to persuade Canada to extradite Mr. Nijjar. He acquired Canadian citizenship despite arriving there under false pretenses and a false identity. India claims he died last summer of Sikh inter-gang activities ....
last year, Canadian police said on Saturday, in a case that strained diplomatic relations with India.

Canadian police earlier this month arrested and charged three Indian men in the city of Edmonton in Alberta and said they were probing whether the men had ties to the Indian government.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced Saturday that Amandeep Singh, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in Nijjar's killing.

Singh, an Indian national who resided in Brampton, Surrey and Abbotsford, was already in jug for unrelated firearms charges out of Peel, Ontario, IHIT said.

Nijjar, 45, was rubbed out in June outside a Sikh temple in Surrey, a Vancouver suburb with a large Sikh population. A few months later, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
...hereditary prime minister of the Great White North...
cited what he said was evidence of potential Indian government involvement, prompting a diplomatic crisis with New Delhi.

Nijjar was a Canadian citizen campaigning for the creation of Khalistan, an independent Sikh homeland carved out of India. The presence of Sikh separatist groups in Canada has long frustrated New Delhi, which had labeled Nijjar a "terrorist".

Sudanese army downs drones targeting airport in Gedaref
[SUDANTRIBUNE] On Sunday, Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army ground defences shot down two drones attempting to target an airport in the al-Fashaga area, east of Gedaref.

Over the past three days, the air defences have dealt with unidentified objects flying over Gedaref without downing them. Military sources suspect these were reconnaissance drones.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that "two drones approached from the west of Gedaref city and were spotted near Wad Zayed Airport in the al-Shawak area. The ground defences of the 2nd Infantry Division engaged them, successfully downing the drones before they could reach their targets."

Wad Zayed Airport, located 35 kilometres east of Gedaref, was constructed alongside the Atbara and Setit Dam project to serve civilian travellers and host a military base.

This incident marks the second of its kind in Gedaref State, which has remained secure since the military festivities began between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on April 15, 2023. The state currently shelters over 400,000 displaced people who fled from Khartoum and Al Jazirah states.

On April 9, the army also downed two drones attempting to target military sites in the eastern state of Sudan.

Niger says Benin's blockade of its oil exports violates trade agreements
[AFRICANEWS] Tensions between Niger and Benin
...Benin, a French-speaking West African nation, that they put where Dahomey used to be. It is a birthplace of voodoo and zombies. In Abomey, Dahomey's former capital, the Historical Museum occupies two royal palaces with bas-reliefs recounting the kingdom’s past and a throne mounted on human skulls. To the north, Pendjari National Park offers safaris with elephants, hippos and lions and tigers and bears, oh my!...
have escalated further over a decision by Cotonou to prevent its landlocked neighbour from using its port to export its first crude oil, as a border dispute between the two rages on.

Niger's Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine said on Saturday that Benin's blockade of its oil exports violated trade agreements between the two countries and with Niamey's Chinese partners.

In a comment that further escalated the dispute, Zeine said Niger could not fully reopen its border with Benin for security reasons.

In response, Cotonou said it would only back down once Niamey reopened its border to goods coming from Benin and normalised relations.

The blockade jeopardises Niger's plan to start exporting crude oil to China under a $400 million deal.

A 2,000 kilometre-long Chinese-built pipeline links Niger’s Agadem oil field to Benin’s port in the capital.

Relations have been strained between Niamey and Cotonou since a military coup in Niger last year.

It led Benin and the West African regional bloc (ECOWAS) to impose strict sanctions on Niger, including border closures, in a bid to force the military to hand power back to the elected government.

These were eased in February, but Niger has refused to reopen is land border to goods coming from Benin.

Economy
Biden's Chair of Economic Advisors Ramble Incoherently
FWIW, Jared Bernstein has a degree in Music and in Social Work but heads the Council of Economic Advisors - he is asked a question about why the govt borrows money if it can print money
[BoingBoing] Well, um... the... uh... so the... I mean... again, some of this stuff gets... some of the language that the MM... some of the language and concepts are just confusing. I mean, the government definitely prints money and it definitely lends that money. Which is why, uh... uh... the government definitely prints money and it lends that money by uh... by selling bonds. Is that what they do? They... they... um... they... yeah... they... they... um... they sell bonds. Yeah. They sell bonds, right? Since they sell bonds and people buy the bonds and lend them the money. Yeah. So, a lot of times, a lot of times, at least to my ear with MMT, the language and the concepts can be kind of unnecessarily confusing, but there is no question that the government prints money and then it uses that money to um... uh... eh... uh... so... um... yeah... I... I... I guess I'm just... I don't... I can't really ta- I don't... I don't get it. I don't know what they're talking about, like... cuz... it's like, the government clearly prints money. It does it all the time, and it clearly borrows. Otherwise we wouldn't be having this in.. this conversation. I don't think there's anything confusing there."

UK revokes visa of Palestinian student who participated in pro-Gaza protest
[NEWARAB] The UK government this week has revoked the student visa of a Paleostinian student following her participation in a peaceful pro-Paleostine demonstration at the University of Manchester.

Dana Abuqamar, who leads the Friends of Paleostine Society at her university, said the UK government rescinded her visa citing "national security" and labelled her a public safety risk.

"The claim they are making is baseless and violates my rights as a resident here in the UK. My legal team has lodged a human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
appeal against this decision to revoke my student visa in my last and final year as a law student," Abuqamar told Al Jazeera on Friday.

In October last year, 15 members of the 19-year-old law student’s family were killed during Israel’s war on Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
"During this genocide, the UK Home Office decided to revoke my student visa following public statements supporting the Paleostinian right to exercise under international law to resist oppression and break through the siege that was illegally placed on Gaza for over 16 years," Abuqamar said.

Her visa revocation raises serious questions about the UK’s impartiality and commitment to freedom of speech, with her arguing that none of her behaviour conceivably poses a threat to public order.

"Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, but it seems to not apply to ethnic minorities, particularly Moslems and Paleostinians like myself," she said to Al Jazeera.

UK gov looks to ban pro-Palestine protest groups, including Palestine Action, 'like terror groups'
[NEWARAB] Pro-Paleostine groups in the UK, including the prominent Paleostine Action, may soon find themselves branded like terror groups under a proposal by the British government's adviser on political violence.

The BBC reported on Sunday that excerpts of a report it had seen recommended that the government legislate a new category for designating and banning "extreme protest groups".

The report was compiled by former Labour MP and now non-affiliated peer John Woodcock, who sits in the House of Lords as Lord Walney.

Woodcock defines the new category as comprising groups that employ "criminal tactics" to achieve their aims.

The report recommends that the government implement sanctions on these groups to restrict their right to assemble and their ability to raise funds.

"Militant groups like Paleostine Action and Just Stop Oil are using criminal tactics to create mayhem and hold the public and workers to ransom without fear of consequence," Woodcock stated, as reported by the BBC.

"Banning terror groups has made it harder for their activists to plan crimes - that approach should be extended to extreme protest groups too," he added.

Founded in 2020, Paleostine Action is known for its use of direct action to shut down and disrupt primarily UK and European-based corporations that sell arms to Israel.

Family members of the hostages, carrying pictures of their loved ones still in captivity, joined the crowds that demonstrated in Tel Aviv.

One of them was Naama Weinberg, whose cousin Itai Svirsky was kidnapped during Hamas' Oct. 7 assault on Israeli towns and, according to Israeli authorities, was killed in captivity. In a speech she referenced a video Hamas made public on Saturday, claiming that another of the Israeli captives had died.

"Soon, even those who managed to survive this long will no longer be among the living. They must be saved now," Weinberg said.

Sudanese army bombs Republican Palace in Khartoum
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The historic Republican Palace overlooking the Blue Nile in Khartoum was targeted by artillery strikes this Sunday, marking the first such attack in several months.

The palace, controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the war began in April 2023, came under renewed artillery shelling. Social media platforms circulated video clips showing parts of the palace ablaze, with flames visible in one of its courtyards and facades.

Sources within the RSF report that the army conducted random bombings on the Republican Palace in retaliation for intensified battles against them in the Signal Corps area in Khartoum North.

Local sources informed Al Jazeera TV that the Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army deployed heavy artillery to target RSF positions in both Khartoum and Khartoum North.

The ongoing conflict, now lasting over a year between the army and the RSF, has repeatedly exposed the Republican Palace to both artillery and aerial bombardments.

Sunday’s attacks have severely damaged the historic structure, established originally during Ottoman Turkish rule in 1826. The new palace, adjacent to the older structure, has also suffered considerable damage.

Construction of the new Republican Palace commenced next to the original building in March 2011 and was inaugurated by then-President Omer al-Bashir on January 26, 2015.

Renewed clashes in El Fasher leave 27 civilians dead, 130 injured
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Brutal festivities between Sudan

South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese forces and rebels in El Fasher, North Darfur, have left at least 27 civilians dead and 130 injured, the UN’s humanitarian office (OCHA) reported Sunday.

Airstrikes and heavy weapons pounded the city from May 10th morning to 6:30 pm, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict.

The violence erupted like lava from a volcano mid-morning in eastern El Fasher, quickly engulfing the town centre, main market, and neighbourhoods. Hundreds of civilians, estimated at 850 people (170 families), fled their homes, seeking refuge in the south. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported widespread displacement.

El Fasher South Hospital, the city’s primary medical facility, is overwhelmed with maimed. The 100-bed hospital struggles to cope due to a lack of ambulances, supplies, and medicine. Despite the ceasefire, residents fear renewed fighting.

This latest violence adds to a devastating pattern. Over 40,600 people were displaced in El Fasher locality between April 1st and 18th due to tribal festivities and fighting between government forces and rebels. Humanitarian access to El Fasher is severely restricted, hindering aid delivery.

Mali national dialogue recommends junta rule extension
[AFRICANEWS] A recent national dialogue in Mali concluded with recommendations supporting the extension of military rule for several more years.

Participants, mainly from the military, proposed that Colonel Assimi Goita, the leader of the junta that seized power in 2020, should be allowed to run for the presidency in future elections. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the dialogue was marked by significant opposition boycotts, with critics accusing the military of using the process to prolong its hold on power.

Mali has experienced successive coups in 2020 and 2021, leading to military rule. Initially, promises were made to transition to civilian governance through democratic elections, but these plans have been indefinitely postponed due to security concerns stemming from jihadist attacks.

In April, the military authorities further tightened their grip by suspending all political activities and clamping down on opposition figures, journalists, and human rights
