With the prospect of increasing pre-monsoon rains, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow advisory for the coastal region from May 16 to May 19. During this time, rain and thunder are predicted in different regions of the twin districts.
Significant rainfall was recorded in a few locations in Beltangady and Sullia on Wednesday. There was also cloud cover at Mangaluru, where the temperature reached a maximum of 33.4°C and a minimum of 25°C.
Some areas of the Udupi district experienced damage late on Tuesday night as a result of rain and strong winds. Damage was done to the homes of Sarada Bhat, Prabhakart Bhat, Raghavendra Bhat, and Babi in Siddapur, Prema Achari in Hosangady, Kadthi, Nagu Shetty, Raju, and Belly in Molahalli, and Gulabi Shetty and Sunil D’Souza in Brahmavar Heggunje. Shankar Madiwala in Ullur was also affected.
Approximately 120 uprooted electrical poles, seven damaged transformers, and 1.32 kilometers of damaged electricity cable were recorded in the Udupi district. Mescom is expected to lose about Rs 22 lac.
