When you’re a rich kid, your idea of a casual gift is going to be a lot different than the average kid. In fact, most of the general public will probably never get some of the lavish gifts super-rich kids are receiving on their birthday. From luxury cars to coats worth thousands of dollars, here are some of the most expensive gifts wealthy parents are bestowing upon their kids.

Expensive Clothes and Accessories

When we say “expensive clothes,” we’re just not talking about a splurge on a pair of Nikes before school starts.

“Kim Kardashian and ex-husband Kanye West once bought their daughter North a previously owned $65,000 velvet coat,” Todd Stearn, founder and CEO of TheMoneyManual.com, said. The previous owner? Michael Jackson. He was actually photographed wearing it while out on the town with Elizabeth Taylor.

“On the more affordable side, Cardi B bought her young daughter earmuffs by Chanel,” Stearn said. These cost about $1,000 a pair. Not $65,000, but still not cheap.

These items aren’t really purchased for function as much as they are to make a statement. “High-end designer clothes for children from brands like Gucci, Burberry or Dior are often purchased not just for quality but as a status symbol,” Keith Ritchie, CEO of Prime Massage Chairs, said.

Art Collections

“Some parents invest in art or start a collection for their child as a form of investment and cultural education,” Ritchie said.

Blue Ivy, the daughter of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, was the recipient of a very pricy art piece. Her parents gave her name on the winning bid of a $10,000 work by Samuel Levi Jones at the Wearable Art Gala in 2018.

High-End Gadgets and Toys

“From the latest electronics to custom-made toys or playhouses, wealthy parents might provide their children with gadgets and toys that are technologically advanced or uniquely crafted, often costing thousands,” Ritchie said.

One popular gift in this category seems to be the Mini Bentley: costing about $2,000. Some drivers of this include Dream Kardashian (Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna’s child) and True Thompson (Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s child). Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, was once gifted a playhouse that cost more than $20,000. Of course, all utilities were included: it provided running water and electricity.

If that doesn’t sound bougie enough to you, enter the La Belle Au Bois Dormant Coach, a $70,000 carriage fit for Cinderella. No design details are spared on this classic vehicle. The upholstery is made from 100% silk and the wood is intricately carved. Beyoncé and Jay-Z make an appearance once again, as they are said to have given this to their children as a gift.

Fancy Cars

The only thing better than a toy designer car is the real thing. While most of our first cars might have belonged to someone in our family, or were at least very used, children of moguls are receiving brand-new luxury vehicles.

“Teenagers of wealthy parents might receive high-end cars, often luxury or sports models, as their first vehicle,” Ritchie said. Stearn added that, for Christmas 2023, Travis Barker’s kids were the lucky recipients of a car that most of us will never own. “Travis Barker bought each of his two teen children a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. These cost around $140,000 each.”

Of course, you don’t have to have a driver’s license to be given an expensive car. At least, that’s the case for Imade Adeleke, the daughter of Nigerian singer Davido. For her 5th birthday she was given a $90,000 Range Rover. Hopefully Davido keeps it in good shape until she’s legally allowed to drive it around.

Exclusive Education

If your parents are rich, that means they have the keys, so to speak, to the most elite and costly schools.

“Wealthy parents might enroll their children in prestigious private schools or boarding schools known for their rigorous academics and influential networks,” Ritchie said. “Tuition for these institutions can be comparable to university fees.”

For example, Blue Ivy attended an elementary school that cost $19,000 a year.

An Island

“Tyrese Gibson reportedly bought his daughter Shayla an island,” Stearn said.

You read that correctly. Not just an island vacation: an entire island. Gibson gifted his daughter what he called Love Island back in 2015. She was eight years old at the time. As far as the going rate, buying an island can cost anywhere from $100,000 to more than $16 million.
