Police rescue additional seven abducted varsity students

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued an additional seven abducted students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State.

PUNCH Online reported that the bandits on Thursday night, swooping into the university around 9 p.m. and abducted some students who were reading for their upcoming exams.

The bandits who reportedly came in through the bush, shooting into the air to scare the students, went into three lecture halls.

In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya on Thursday, he said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun had deployed the Air Component of Police Security apparatus made up of helicopter crew specially trained for aerial surveillance, monitoring team as well as the state’s Technical Intelligence Unit.

The deployment was “in furtherance of the ongoing rescue operation and to sustain the onslaught on the suspected bandits that abducted the yet-to-be ascertained number of students of the Confluence State University, CUSTECH, last week Thursday.”

The statement read, “The reinforcement is in response to the IGP’s unwavering passion about protecting lives and property of all Nigerians, especially the safety of our Children in various Schools in the country.

“The diligence and indomitable spirit of all the combined team led to the rescue of additional seven victims, bringing the total to 21.

“It’s not over until it is over, so we should not rest on our oars. Instead, all hands must be on deck to ensure all are safely rescued and perpetrators are brought to deserved justice.”

He said that the Kogi State Government as well as the university community are satisfied with the rescue operations so far and commended the unassailable level of cooperation, collaboration and synergy among the security agents.

He said the State Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha used the medium to thank and appreciate the police boss and the security teams for their show of unprecedented patriotism, and to the good people of the state, among others.

The CP continues to solicit the cooperation, collaboration and solidarity of the good people of Confluence State with the Police and other Security Agencies because together, we shall ensure adequate Security of life and property of law-abiding citizens in the State.
