Upgrade fever for the R5 mkii ;-;

I have an R6 mkii but when I bought it I was strongly considering the R5. Now that the R5 mkii is coming out, I'm considering selling my R6 mkii to get it, or somehow trading in for it. I like shooting landscapes so the higher resolution is a big draw for me. I already like the Canon system, ergonomics, etc. so despite probably not needing it, I'm considering the upgrade. Is this a good move or can someone convince me that I don't need it?,

Do you print?

Is this used for paid work?

Do you heavily crop? I don’t mean like “I need to get the horizon straight” I mean more like “let’s get rid of 40% of this photo. And if you do crop, is it something you can improve with better framing?

I don't print but I do display images on 4k tvs. And no it's not paid. There are some instances where I do crop a lot, but I guess few and far between. I guess I just don't like having to worry about how much I'm cropping when I do.

4k is approx 8.3M pixels.

It sounds like you have GAS. The R6ii is so freaking good at what it does. Consider what people used 10 years back for landscape, and this camera would likely blow them out of the water.

I don’t think you’re going to see a difference in quality in any sizable way. It’ll be like a race of inches and not miles. You’re not going to tell a difference on a tv unless you’re cropping and even then it’s going to depend on how much you crop.

I wouldn’t.

I had the R5 but sold it to use the R6 II as a backup to my other bodies.

In my experience the difference in megapickles is only relevant when cropping a lot or wanting to shoot 8k. Remember that a 4k screen can only display 8 mp. That’s a crapton of cropping on a 24 mp body.

I’d spend the money on glass instead.

Yea you're probably right. I do crop sometimes and I don't like worrying about how much I can crop, but I guess it doesn't happen that often. I've just heard that for landscape, you want a high resolution so I got FOMO. But yea I should be content with the R6, I still love it, the only thing I would even want to upgrade would be the resolution, but better glass would provide be a better bet.

All the rumors I have seen for the r5ii don't make it look significantly better than the R5.

Wait for the mkii to be shipping and get a deal on a used mki.
