A new stage in the commercial vehicle market

Dr. Huang Hongliang, General Manager of EVE Energy Power Battery Marketing Center, gave an in-depth analysis of the evolution and future trends of commercial vehicle electrification. He declared that with the continuous advancement of battery technology and the continuous optimization of costs, especially the iteration of lithium iron phosphate battery technology, the electrification development of commercial vehicles will enter a new stage in 2024. In retrospect, the new energy commercial vehicle market has experienced policy-driven, market adjustment, growth and other stages, and encountered a significant price reduction of battery materials in 2023, made the cost-effectiveness of power batteries more prominent.

For inter-city light truck logistics vehicles and long-distance trunk heavy trucks, the electrification penetration rates are only 7.6% and 0.2% respectively. The current generation of battery technology can‘t satisfy these two markets application requirements, therefore the focus of competition for the next generation of battery products must be light truck logistics vehicles and long-distance trunk heavy trucks. Based on predictions, by 2028, the overall penetration rate of commercial vehicle electrification is expected to reach over 32.7%. Especially in medium and long-distance logistics, the largest commercial vehicle application market, electrification will usher in an explosive period.

Medium and long-distance logistics between cities need to take into account the four major requirements of faster charging, lighter weight, longer life, and better cost. Only by continuously advancing battery technology to fully meet the electrification needs of medium and long-distance logistics can the overall market penetration rate of commercial vehicles be better improved. Two major product features, high performance and ultra-durability, enable worry-free charging and operation of commercial vehicles. This series of products use leading 3C supercharging technology, which can quickly charge from 20% to 80% SOC in 15 minutes. Compared with conventional batteries, the charging time is shortened by 67%, which greatly improves the operating efficiency of commercial vehicles. The new product not only has pulse 4C and continuous 3C high-power discharge capabilities, ensures the vehicle's stable driving and easy climbing under harsh road conditions, but also increases the cycle life to 7,000 times, ensures that commercial vehicles can be worry-free use throughout their life cycle. In the face of extremely challenging road conditions, the battery pack passed the industry's first 9mm diagonal twist test. It can still maintain structural integrity and good air tightness after twisting 60,000 times, shows that the product has great reliability.

Three major technical highlights, extreme electric core, extreme heat transfer and extreme structure, constitute the outstanding performance of the "Open Source Battery". By using innovative technologies such as fast ion conductivity composite cathode and graphite multi-cluster conductive negative electrode, the battery achieves the dual advantages of ultra-fast charging and long life. At the same time, in order to cope with the challenges of large size and special structure of commercial vehicle batteries, the "Open Source Battery" adopts new CTB global foaming technology and new top-bottom double-sided cooling technology to accurately control battery temperature and effectively improve battery performance and life.

The full range of the "Open Source Battery" products released this time covers four cells: LF125P, LF125H, LF140P and LF150P. Based on these batteries, four major platform products have been developed: minivan M3/M4, light truck T3, heavy truck H2 and heavy truck H3, which are widely applicable in different commercial vehicle fields such as logistics vehicles and heavy trucks.
